Mach 1 Clutch: Help!

Like the title says, I need some help/advice. I was all set to finally drop the transmission out of the Mach to replace the clutch when the 2 upper transmission bolts decided otherwise. They were just not going to break loose. I have sprayed some liberal amounts of WD-40 Rust Release Penetrant on them and let them soak for a day. Went back at it and no dice. Of course the bolts can only be accessed with about 2' of extension and a swivel so getting good leverage on them is tough. This project got kick started because Shannon lost her job a few weeks ago and if money gets tight the Mach needs to be running. Any help advise someone might have would be much appreciated. Kind of look at you, Paul and Ron.

You can't reach them from the top with a wrench? That's how I have always done it. I'm trying to remember back to when I removed the engine and trans on my nephews '97 Mustang if I was able to do that. Is the bell housing part of the trans or does it bolt on separately? The T5 in the Cobra had a separate bell housing so I could remove 4 bolts and separate them. I had to do that once when the top bolts just wouldn't budge. Once I removed the trans I was able to use a short extension on an impact gun to remove the bell housing.

I never thought about going from the top. Driver side I can see the bolt so that could be possible. I could not see the passenger side bolt though. Lots of hoses on that side. I think if I take the hood off it could give me better access. I will give it a shot.

No separate bell housing with the TR-3650 so that idea would not work.

Thanks for the ideas Ron!

Were you using an impact gun on it with multiple extensions? If so, you're better off using a breaker bar or at least a ratchet with a bar on the end. I've done that a few times as well. I have a foot long piece of DOM left over from the Explorer that fits nicely over the handle of my 1/2 drive ratchet.

I used an impact/ratchet/breaker bar with a universal joint and 2 extensions. Broke one of the 3/8 universals I had and the extensions were flexing bad.

Try to get it from the top. If you have to, double up the wrenches. Do you know how to do that?

Yup. Thanks for the feedback Ron.

So did you get a chance to work on it this weekend?

You can lower the K member to get a straight extension on there(you'll want to piece together a few shorter length ones), you can unbolt the motor mounts and rock the engine back or get some wrenches like these.
