Im rebuilding this Honda GX200 motor, and for the life of me I cant find a gap in the top 2 rings! Has anyone else seen this before? They sell replacement rings... so??

I found the oil control rings gaps easy. You can see them in the pic.

There has to be a gap because they have to be able to expand and contract. Take a small flathead screwdriver and run it over the edge of the ring. Most likely the gap is just full of carbon so you can't see it.

You called it, ran a hook around it a few times, finally struck the edge. The ends of the rings were rusted together. Forced together for so long because the cylinder was thickly coated with rust, so much rust that the piston froze in place. Which is why this motor failed.

Lesson for anyone who thinks its ok to run without an air filter. And NO, it wasnt me who destroyed the motor.
