Need to replace valve spring, don't know exactly what it is
So kdracer73 help me sort a problem I've been having and discovered that one thing is for sure, I have a busted intake valve spring on cylinder 6. I know they're not stock, but can't find any record as to what exactly the are. I'm cash poor and would prefer to replace just that one at this time instead of all 16. How do I determine the correct replacement?

Check with the guy who built the engine that you bought it from. If he doesn't remember then I would go with what ever is recommended for the cam.

I'm pretty sure they make a spring pressure checker. You can just measure the diameter, measure the spring pressure, call comp and see what is closest off the shelf.

Is it a beehive or dual spring?

If you want to do it super cheap, enkei style, take off a good one, take it to a machine shop and have them measure it.
To keep the valves in place, move the piston up to the top for safety, and fill the cylinder with compressed air from the spark plug hole. |

Thanks for the tips. I'd like to get this sorted this week if possible. I haven't driven the Vette since Ortega.

The issue with testing the old spring is that it will be weak (less spring pressure).

Which is why when he picks out a spring close to the measured pressure, he should move up on the scale.

But I doubt his relatively new springs will be that much lighter anyways. And if they were, it would be better to match what he has right now anyway.
