So they raided a welding shop because they sell Nitrous? WTF?

Vettezuki 03-31-2013 12:15 PM

There's been a big crack down on Nitrous as part of the WOD.

just another excuse for warrantless searches.

What makes you think they were warrantless.

injdinjn 04-01-2013 04:15 PM

The customers that happened to drive up while the raid was in progress. Did the cops know those particular customers were going to arrive and had warrants for them?

From what I read, there was only 1 customer arrested. The report said that "evidence suggested to uniformed sheriff’s deputies that a person who arrived in a car to buy nitrous oxide may have narcotics." I don't know what that evidence was. It may have been nothing. It also sounds to me like the guy could have been dumb enough to let the cops search his trunk. If the cops truly had evidence and the guy didn't let them search, they would have waited for a warrant anyway. Or maybe the guy didn't let them search the trunk and they did wait for a warrant. Too much we don't know to assume the cops carried out an illegal search.

What amazes me the most is how many shops allegedly don't know how to store nitrous bottles properly. It's super simple, stand them up, put them up against a wall and strap them to the wall with a chain so they can't fall over.

All of these shops really can't be selling nitrous illegally as a drug. There really can't be that many idiots running these shops that do that, can there??

Cops will intimidate someone into allowing a warrantless search. Can they hold you until a warrant arrives - no.
Cops will arrest for the highest crime they can come up with, then the DA reviews the evidence and most of the time the case is dropped or knocked down a minor offense.
This was some kind of "dog and pony" show, why? I have no idea. I do know the cops, thanks to the Patriot Act, are pushing the limits of their powers on the public, testing to see what they can do to us before we bite back.

Vettezuki 04-03-2013 11:29 AM

Most people are not aware of the actual limits on Police power. . . uh, including police, and that's where it gets dangerous because they simply ARE NOT held to the same, let alone, harsher standard than the rest of the public.

Nevertheless, the more people who understand and use their rights (along with not taking pleas and nullifying on juries for non-violent crimes, etc.) the better.
