Surging blow off valve noise on a diesel?!?
Had an interesting diagnostic day today. Ive had a P0299/ ETC light issue that Ive narrowed down to the electronic turbo actuator. (I think) Anyways, I drove it around after trying one last thing before I send the actuator out for a rebuild... and I heard what sounds like a BOV surge.
Now first of all, diesels usually dont have throttle plates and thus no need for a BOV. So what the hell is this?!? I took a video at night while brake torquing, listen and let me know if you have any ideas/ an explanation. http://s712.photobucket.com/user/enk...10244451867515 |
It's called turbo fart, my turbo made similar sounds at high boost and right before it exploded.

It's never done that before. And now it does it, when I'm having an issue? Can't be a coincidence.

I think the wastegate actuator is failing, causing it to stick open, producing too much boost which is trying to come back out the intake.
