Car, Motorcycle, and Driving Themed Songs

GUIDELINES
It is preferred that the primary subject of the song be a car, motorcycle or driving. However, there is a little grey area here. If a song is just somehow evocative of driving that's acceptable, but perhaps a bit weak. Consider Drive by The Cars as a borderline case. Maybe we'll have two branches, strong and weak.

STRONG
Chauffeur - Duran Duran
409 - Beach Boys
Shut Down - Beach Boys
Little Duce Coupe - Beach Boys
Our Car Club - Beach Boys
Dead Man's Curve - Jan and Dean
I'm In love with My Car - Queen
Hey, little Cobra - The Rip Cords
Little GTO - Ronnie and the Daytonas
Little Red Corvette - Prince
Hot Rod Lincoln - Charlie Ryan and The Livingston Brothers
Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett
Drive - The Vibrators
We Ride'n -Kingspade
Bat outta Hell-Meat Loaf
Speed – Montgomery Gentry
Ride the Wind - Poison
Get out of Denver-Bob Seger
Greased Lightning - Soundtrack of "Grease"
Hopped-up Mustang - Arlen Sanders
Flirtin with Disaster - Molly Hatchet
455 Rocket - Kathy Mattea
Chrome - Trace Adkins
I can't drive 55 - Sammy Hagar
Fuel - Metallica
Born to Run - Bruce Springstein
Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf
Turn the Page - Bob Seger
No Particular Place to Go - Chuck Berry
Roadrunner - Modern Lovers
Ol’ 55 - Tom Waits
Z28 - Cult of Static
Shut Up and Drive - Rihanna
Drive like I Never Been Hurt - Ry Cooder

WEAK
Drive - The Cars
Paradise by the Dashboard Lights – Meatloaf

I do know it's not about a "CAR"--it's about a broken heart.:p

So any song that even mentions a vehicle<

Yeah, it's kinda borderline. But I ALWAYS had the image of driving in my mind with this. The language is evocative of driving in some sense.

Holy Crap, I thought I could get obscure. A+ for gunfish :hail:

There's gotta be a story behind why you know that song.

You know, the first time I heard it we were hanging out at Sean Plunk's Grandma's house after dinner, listening to records (yeah, good ol' LP's on a turntable. For all of you youngsters out there, google it!)
Anyway, the lights were low and we started talking about and playing songs that creeped us out. The 2 songs that stuck in my memory were "Warm Leatherette" and "DOA" by Bloodrock.

Creepy but cool memories!

How that heck did that album end up at that house I wonder??? That is some wayyy obscure stuff. That's like something you'd learn about in an electronic music class at university OR in the original somewhat underground scene and that's about it. Wow.

I'm sure those were through the courtesy of "The Old Man" aka Sean Plunk's pop. He and I enjoyed some of those obscure little nuggets, especially a group called "The Residents".

Before anyone thinks we were too funky, I also remember a fall afternoon where most of the same bunch sat around spinning albums from "The Monkees." Wait.....that could be the definition of funky - or sad.

I was waiting for that one. :smack: I'll check the lyrics of some of the other ones as I'm not completely familiar with them, and add accordingly. Some of them I know but never associated with cars or driving, but maybe I wasn't listening to the lyrics so closely.

enkeivette 12-17-2008 10:18 PM

Metallica - Fuel

Has anyone mentioned this one?
Don't let Eric Kerplunk know that I posted this video.

You just did.

TimAT 12-31-2008 07:29 AM

Radar Love is one of those songs that starts with you driving at 55 and ends with you driving 95. But I do that with Orange Blossom Special too. My Bad.

Maybe another thread for those songs that make you drive too fast?
