Angels Crest Cruise - June 5, 2010

hey guys. since tom [fdogg96] posted up my club's august event in san diego, i felt it would be prudent if i also posted up our angeles crest meet, happening THIS WEEKEND!

here's the info:

Now that FFF is over, it's time for one of the BEST SCPOC meets of the year!

Event: Angeles Crest Highway
Date: Saturday, June 5, 2010
Start time: Approximately 10AM
Meeting Location: Ralph's Parking Lot, just off I-210 exit at Sunland Blvd.

Okay. Since the main route to the highway is closed, we're going to have to take the back way in. That's alright, because the road we're taking to get to Angeles Crest is also pretty fun to drive. :)

In a change of pace, we'll meet up at the Ralph's parking lot in Sunland at 10AM. Then we'll leave for ACH no later than 10:30AM - you should be ready, in your vehicle, vehicle fueled up, and set to go. If you're not fueled up, there is a Mobil, 76, and a Shell not too far away on Sunland Blvd. If you have to go, Ralph's and Rite Aid should have restrooms.

The cruise will start along Sunland Blvd heading east. We'll make a left onto Oro Vista Ave. It will become Big Tujunga Road, which will take us to Angeles Forest Highway, where we'll turn right and head toward Angeles Crest Highway. Once we get to ACH, we'll turn left then head to the turnoff to Mount Wilson. Once we get to the top, we'll stop for a few pics, then come return and head down ACH until we get to Islip Saddle, where ACH meets with SR-39.

The back half of ACH is open, so we'll get to enjoy the trip through to Wrightwood, before turning off onto SR-138 and then off to I-15. We can head south on the 15 and grab a bite to eat in Racho Cucamonga. We can decide that along the way or discuss that in this thread.

In any event, this will be a GREAT drive and one that we'll all enjoy!

What we would appreciate you bringing:
  • An FRS radio - we will establish the channel at the meet location
  • A good attitude, keeping driving safety in mind
  • An appetite for twisty roads

REMINDER: SCPOC has some minor rules regarding driving habits while on club cruises Safety is EXTREMELY important. The majority of the drive will be at a reasonable speed for the course and a minimum safe following distance between cars will be enforced. The maximum speed limit on ACH is 55 mph and believe me, this limit is fast enough for the majority of these turns; there will be NO excessive driving permitted.

Hope to see you all there!
if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. :)

This gathering is open to different types of cars, yes? As much as I've always liked the Probe, I don't own one; or an MX-6. Still welcome?

yep. EVERYONE is welcome. :)

I've been on this cruise..its fun...and scenic..and fun. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, i cannot make it. Hopefully, things will be better for me to make the TOR.

Thanks for the kind words and making us feel so welcome. Everyone we spoke with was nice and had a good attitude. You and Stacy are really, really good drivers. That was reassuring on a road that demands attention. The addition of the two-way radios made the day just that much better. Again, thank you for a fantastic day and a great drive.
