SOA Rear

So i'm getting ready to do a spring over on the rear of my 88 trooper.

I kind of like this idea on doing the spring over on the cheap.

That's the way to do it if you want SOA. One thing to think about though, you're going to have to lower your bump stops. You will be moving the bump point (axle) a few inches lower than since the axle is now below the spring. So you've just increased the bump point by the axle width plus the old spring perch height. So unless the springs you are going to use are designed to go into a negative arch you'll have to move the bump stop down or add a bump point on top of the spring.

The rear isuzu bump stop are easy to lower (make a spacer for)

i'll see how level it sits when i get it all done.

If you plan on using your old springs it's easy to measure to see how high it'll sit. You'll raise it the width of the axle plus the height of the old sprinng perch plus the height of the new spring perch plus the thickness of the spring pack. My guess would be between 5 to 7 inches in total.

On my friends ranger we just grinded the old perches off and welded them on top of the Exploder axle. Same with the shock mounts.

The way I want to mount the spring and shock would mean that I dont want to remove the old perch. (The shock mount to the u-bolt plate.)

Does anyone know of any local that had a good deal on perches and u-bolts?

If not i'm gonna pick up a set of each (chime in if you think I should go will better perches)

That's a good price for both. I'd order them.

Its been so hot lately so work has been slow.

Hmmm. Something looks missing....

Test fitting the perch, ubolts and plate.

Perches welded on.

I still need to get some shocks , and some different ubolt plates (stock ones are too small)

Did you check the pinion angle before you welded them on?
