The roadways can be a dangerous place to be, no matter what type of vehicle is moving you and yours to and fro. Though cars and trucks are getting safer year after year, the same can't necessarily be said of motorcycles. While advances like anti-lock brakes, traction control and even airbags have made modern motorcycles easier to ride, it's no surprise which vehicle generally wins when a car and a motorcycle collide.

That's where the proper safety gear comes into play. In order to maximize safety when riding on two (or three) wheels, a rider needs to cover him or herself in the full spate of riding apparel, and companies like Icon Motorsports fill that need. Thing is, motorcyclists tend to be an interesting bunch, and appealing to their sense and sensibilities isn't easy.

Hence, the video you'll see after the break.* In it, a super cool dude with a ratty Porsche 928 has locked himself firmly in the '80s and doesn't give a single thought to anyone else, including a pair of Harley-Davidson Sportster-mounted bikers, ably played by Rob Carpenter and Chris Rayburn. Mayhem ensues. Oh, and as is often the case in the real world, the motorcyclist gets the girl.

ya, I want a bike but I have no trust in 95% of the drivers here in Socal.

Redondo Jon, you might know where I am talking about. I was driving on PCH between Calle Mayor and Prospect around 8 one night in my 05 Mustang GT with very loud exhaust(no cats). A lifted F-350 changed lanes right into me because he couldnt see me since his truck was so high it created a huge blind spot on the passenger front part of the truck. Luckily all it did was burn a bunch of rubber to my paint which I was able to buff out and burnt off the sticker on my wheel. $20 for a new sticker and it was like it didnt happen. But to this day whenever I think of getting a bike I think of that night and think about if I was on a bike I would probably be dead.

One of the good things about riding a bike is that it makes you a far better driver. You just can't daydream on a bike. You must be constantly attentive to what's around you, watching shadows under cars, always staying out of blind spots, etc. The other upside of a bike (a sporty one anyway) is that you can avoid a lot of accidents by swerving accelerating out of the way etc.

:iagree: Perfectly said. The last bit of gear I use to put on were my gloves. When that was done, I’d tell myself: You are now invisible. That saved me more times than I care to remember. Riding a motorcycle isn’t dangerous, it’s risky. For me, the fun of riding far outweighed the risk. I’d get another one in a second.

Yep, I know the exact area where “Snowman” hit you. You, Mike, and I are practically neighbors. Good to hear you were able to fix your car without too much difficulty. Probably didn’t even scuff the truck tire.

Had a gsxr 1000 sold it (because I hated the fact that one stupid driver could take me out.) Than wanted to ride again and got a gsxr 750 rode that for a bit and discovered the same thing. Its been a couple years almost exactly and I keep thinking I want another.

Sold my bike cause i was almost ran over twice. If i wasnt on an enduro i would have died the last time

Same story here.....on the fwy....guy on the fwy in the lane to my right, swear we made eye contact. Changed lanes right into me..sold the bike that week.

And after working on a few 928s lately, that is the best thing to do to one.
