Opinion on 89 Benz 300E sedan

Hey guys, I was thinking of a picking up a beater just for my short commute to work and to beat around town, keep miles off the new Jeep and the Vette. My friends just got this '89 MB 300E in from another shop in a deal. The car has been meticulously maintained. It's had only 1owner and the shop it came from did all the service after the dealer. Interior is clean and the body is straight, only the paint has some fading. Under the hood it looks new, no leaks. My friend is asking $1200 but will replace all 4 shocks, floats like a boat right now, and will recharge the ac. I heard these 3.0L (m103) inline 6 motors are bulletproof. Anyone have any experience with these cars? Opinions? Oh and the car has 170k mi but runs really good. Fires right up and shifts nice and firmly too.

That's practically free, and while not that model, I've known people with older model Mercs that were maintained that ran for decades and many many hundreds of thousands of miles. My guess is you'd be perfectly happy with it by description.

That's good to hear man. Seemed like a cool car for what I need. The dang seats inside looked new. I only drive like 16mi round trip to work and the occasional trip to my friends shop in Covina.

Yeah right by you. The car is parked at the other shops lot still. The area where this shop is smells like a slaughterhouse and dog food. I didn't recall it smelling like that the one time i stopped by your house tho. Lol

The school is in between me and those shops. Can't get there by driving, have to walk across the bridge.
