1988 Mustang GT "Max" Project freebox

...Nah, this one compliments the other one, its not perfect but the price of free(well no out of pocket, just labor) means I can't say no to it, its obviois the pictures are very dark, but I got home late, I'll take better pictures in the upcoming days so for now these will do.

How does it compliment each other you ask? As my 87 gets modded any and all parts removed will be installed onto this car. So far I have about 80% of the parts I need since I started packratting fox parts. I have a complete running engine and transmission, most of the 5 lug disc swap stuff, rest of the interior, seats, and various other nic nacs. All is left is to get some new bumper covers and paint supplies and get to shining this bitch up.

Edited the title for new members and i'll be putting the mod list in the first post to entice readers.
308 shortblock with trw forged pistons and 1/2" hardware, studs ya know
Chromoly pushrods
1.72 ford motorsport rockers
Ford aluminum SVO heads extensively worked
Custom grind ACC cam .544/.544 218/218 114*

Custom powdercoating
All factory accessories including heat and a/c
Vortech si-trim with 3.33 upper and 8" lower with maxflow bypass and vortech aftercooler
Custom fabbed gt500 heat exchanger with fans
Tremec TKO
Hardened 31sp axles with termi rebuilt traction lok and arp wheel studs
complete cobra braking system and 5 lug swap

Lots more stuff just not worth typing out. I will update the list as i remember things.

Nice. Is this going to be for your girlfriend?

Shaolin Crane 05-25-2011 12:05 PM

Yes, she is quite excited.

Have her driving skills improved since "the incident." ;)

Shaolin Crane 05-25-2011 01:38 PM

Yeah, that's the premise behind this car, something she can learn to drive with a relativly low concern level about ruining. Its just a fox and there are millions of them. Better than wrecking one of the nice cars and something she can learn to wrench on, with my supervision of course.

Shaolin Crane 05-25-2011 09:05 PM

Vanessa took some pics todays, never mind me cracking my knees

94cobra69ss396 05-26-2011 09:10 AM

Obviously it was either going to be or was a drag car. Is the suspension still stock or did they set it up for the strip already?

Shaolin Crane 05-26-2011 10:42 AM

I don't know what he was going to do, I have my doubts the cage will pass tech. Its mounted further back than other stang cages. Suspension is so so, has eibach reds, probably sportlines and new looking kyb's other than that its stock, however I am getting all the 5 lug stuff along with it

94cobra69ss396 05-26-2011 01:15 PM

For NHRA your helmet can be a maximum of 6 inches from the main hoop but I don't think they ever verify that. I know when I run at the Street Legals they have never had me sit in the car to check the distance.

Shaolin Crane 05-26-2011 01:48 PM

Yeah I know, still this will be her car, and as sad as it is, they give her shit for everything. Women are not intended to go far in male sports, ask me how I know.

94cobra69ss396 05-26-2011 01:51 PM

You a cross dresser or had a sex change?

Shaolin Crane 05-26-2011 08:01 PM

We have had people say somw vulgar and extremely disrespectful things to her while at the track.

Shaolin Crane 05-26-2011 11:46 PM

Today we spent a couple hours stripping the engine bay to prepare for paint, used nearly a gallon of purple power for how much grease was in there. There is still A LOT of grease left and I let some purple power sit on it, tomorrow I'll cap off the holes in the firewall and wrap some of the wires with plastic wrap and I'll pressure wash it and begin sanding and priming hopefully, then once back from vegas we'll really tear into both of them so parts don't have to sit idle. Here are a few pics...

Still need to remove a couple a small items but that won't take very long

enkeivette 05-27-2011 12:44 AM

Black out those fabulous tail lights quick.

Hahaha, I didn't know where he was going with that at first either.

Shaolin Crane 05-27-2011 08:06 AM

Those tail and head lights are going in the trash, I dnt know who thought those were a good idea.

No need for that! Spray them with tinted clear, they'll look better than stock at night. And simply blacked out during the day.

Shaolin Crane 05-27-2011 02:34 PM

Fuck no, the head lights are done. There is no fucking way I'll put altezzas on my car, and I hate tinted head lights and tail lights, simple=best

Shaolin Crane 05-31-2011 01:31 PM

Here are all the additional parts I got with the car

Fresh gauge panel
All new weather stripping
Interior and exterior felt trim
Run channel strips
Radiator
Sn95 brake setup
Taylor battery relocation box
Dash vents
Rivet gun
Door panels
Arm rest pads
Visors
And other misc parts

94cobra69ss396 05-31-2011 02:07 PM

Are you going to keep the AC for her?

Shaolin Crane 05-31-2011 02:32 PM

Yes, I'm never going to build another car with no a/c. I'll be pulling the dash and replacing the heater core and dash harness and inspecting all the hvac stuff while I'm prepping for paint.

94cobra69ss396 05-31-2011 02:49 PM

Nice. I know that's one thing my wife doesn't like to be without. Besides, you can always run a short belt at events to bypass the compressor if you want just a little more out of the engine.

Shaolin Crane 05-31-2011 03:39 PM

Nah, when I run I always go asis, save for slicks. Everytime I've dragged dedicated service its been without changes to the suspension or even tire pressure. Road course days are different however, would be nice to do a whole road course day with the a/c on :)

Ryridesmotox 06-07-2011 01:12 AM

Nice find. I would love to do a fox body... trouble is, its a ford and I can't own a blue oval... Is she going to be daily driving that thing?

Shaolin Crane 06-07-2011 08:31 AM

The plan for the build is to be able to DD it if she wants to, at the very least something that is comfortable compared to the 87, I'm working a deal on a set of afr 165's for 400, hopefully it works out, nab those heads and a cheap s-trim and I'll keep it around 450rwhp

And as far as blue oval, my 87 has no ovals ;)

Think of it like this, 2850 with driver, n/a 450rwhp 52/48 50/50 weight distribution and by all account is me built, no ford crap left over

Ryridesmotox 06-07-2011 08:49 AM

Yea, I have seen other pictures of that beast you have there. I may have to get one and do a heart transplant to a 351 or something. I love how they look, and the IROC Camaros to me are blah, nothing to be stoked about. But I have always been more about the motor than the looks of a car. My neighbor had a FOX built like yours a while back he wanted to sell for $3,000. He was having some fueling issue that would be easy to trace... I should have bought it from him. It was hooked up with everything he just got tired of it... Even had narrows in front and BIG ass tires in the back.

Shaolin Crane 06-07-2011 01:12 PM

Oh mine couldn't be further from a drag setup, 275's all around blah blah blah, I'll admit the stock motor is a joke, go with an ls3 and don't look back.

Ryridesmotox 06-07-2011 08:27 PM

LS3? Naw I would stay with ford stuff. Maybe a 5.4 for a GT500 or something. I'm not much for swapping different maker's motors into other cars... I think it almost ruins some of the character or something I dunno just a weird personal preference.

Ryridesmotox 06-08-2011 12:17 PM

With the interview that the CEO from GM had... I might be getting a fox body alot sooner than I thought. Or a new 5.0

Shaolin Crane 06-08-2011 12:32 PM

I'm going to hold off on a new 5.0 for a while, I want a c5 something fierce

Ryridesmotox 06-08-2011 06:26 PM

After what Akerson said in his interview I will never buy another GM vehicle again. Just the idea of a car manufacturer's CEO saying that raising the gas prices to force us to buy more economical verhicles is ridiculous. MAKE BETTER CARS AN I'LL BUY THEM! Ford, BMW, or Audi are getting my money from now on.

Shaolin Crane 06-08-2011 08:32 PM

I'm going to use some scewed reasoning saying that since the vette is a 99 its been grandfathered in, and I'll be paying considerably less than what gm got for it. :D definitely won't buy any other gm car.

Ryridesmotox 06-09-2011 10:54 AM

Well I'll use that skewed reasoning if I ever come across a Buick Regal GNX

I'm even considering dumping my old Vette and Sierra just as a matter of principle. I want nothing to do with GM at any level. It's sad because the engineers are doing good work, but their management is in bed with the devil and I'm just not going to participate.

Yea, I just put my Cobalt up on Craigslist today. If anyone wants a fully bolted E85 tuned 410 wheel torque beast let me know... I'm looking for a fox body after I sell mine. I'll be following shaolin's threads and everyone else's to learn what I can about them so I can build a badass one of my own.

Shaolin Crane 06-09-2011 07:07 PM

Of course I'll be glad to help, I have a build thread on stangnet for my other car, on a partially related note I got this...

Ryridesmotox 06-09-2011 07:20 PM

Is that for the diesel?

Shaolin Crane 06-09-2011 07:49 PM

A supercharger for a 6.4? Ney ney, the stock turbos are good for 650/1500. This is for the car in mention of the thread :)

Ryridesmotox 06-09-2011 09:29 PM

Oh shit... I didn't even pay attention to the mounting plate behind it lolol that compresso housing looks like the one on my turbo I had on the 6.5 for a while. How much is that gonna flow PSI wise?

Boosten ya 06-09-2011 10:50 PM
