Fontana Dec. 6

So who's going to the track this weekend.

94cobra69ss396 12-01-2008 10:11 PM

I am but I'm not sure if I'm taking both cars or just the Chevelle though.

SeanPlunk 12-01-2008 10:25 PM

I'm not sure if I'm going to make it or not. I was originally going to go on Sunday because I have a wedding and company party on Saturday, but we'll see. I might try to hit Fontana up in the morning.

2011GT302 12-01-2008 10:36 PM

I'm going to take my Camera and set it up inside the car for a nice in car cam shot going down the strip. check out my MYSPACE page if you wanht to see what I mean.

I'll be there. I plan on racing a 68 GT/CS that has run a best of 11.9. Here's a flyer a member of www.californiaspecial.com made. Is someone gonna videotape?

I thought your other car was a 65 1/2??? The car is so beautiful I'm somewhat shady on the details... Where is the 68 Joe?

I have a 65 convertible and a 68 GT/CS that I crashed a year ago. See post #33 in the following thread. http://motorgen.com/forum/showthread.php?t=890&page=4

I understand your confusion now. I meant I'm going to race against a 68 GT/CS.

That's awesome! She was a beautiful car... I think my favorite out of the 3 mustangs you own that I've seen... You definitely have a touch with mustangs.

I don't think I have a favorite. It just depends on what mood I'm in. But I believe the 68 was the quickest car I've had.

I know it's hard to choose when they are all so awesome... I just love the late 60s series muscle cars...

I was lucky enough to drive a lot of them when they were "new". Keep this in mind they were not as fast as you think. Tires and suspension were a real problem then. Now with all the new "tech" out there a 11 second 60s Muscle Car is not a big deal. Back in the 60s a 13 second vehicle was a BIG deal.:D

Even my set up would have been RACE TECH in the 60s.

Yeah, I remember when doing 100 MPH in a 1/4 mile was big-time bragging rights.

My very FIRST run was 93 mph at 14.99. Damn I thought I was fast with that Hipo289.

I did that in the cobra hopping all over the place and no traction on first of course ( Fontana) :bang:

94cobra69ss396 12-03-2008 03:51 PM

My first time taking the Chevelle to Carlsbad Raceway back in the early 90's was a best of 14.01 at 99.

LOL, my very first time all I could think about was "don't hit the wall, don't hit the wall." Call me a little too cautious but I pulled a 13.12 at 110mph. :D

That kicks my ass with my 14.99 at 93 mph.:judge::sm_laughing::judge:
The was in my 64 Fairlane with the Hipo 289.

The very FIRST run with the Vette was at the 1974 All Corvette Meet at OCIR.
I ran a 14.03 at ALMOST 100 mph. I won against a 340hp 62 Vette.

BUT, I can say I NEVER went any slower than that ever again.

It was my first time down a 1/4 mile and it felt real fast to me. Back then the fastest I had taken the car before that had been 80mph on the freeway.

However, now when I run low 11's off the bottle the car feels slow.

Throttle Crazy 12-04-2008 03:17 PM

I think that Carlsbad run was 1990-1991, peg leg and tire frying. The first time I accually went down a track was at Terminal Island around 1993. My Katana 600 turned 11.70's, it was a wheely machine. It felt very fast especially with the bump in the track about halfway down. That bike sure pissed off alot of gsxr 750 owners back then.

Ya it did. We made a lot of $20's off that bike and only one guy could figure out what you did.

At least low 10's still feels fast. Tomorrows race will be the last for the Chevelle with it's current engine configuration. I'm going pull it apart and go through it after this. Hopefully when it's back together it'll run 10's on the engine without N2O.

10s without N2O. Are you going to use some kind of Forced Induction or be NA?

I've seen the videos of your Chevelle run. Like I've said before--- impressive.

It will be N/A this time. I've run a best of 11.11 at 121 with the current combo without N2O. I'm planning on doing some head and intake porting and possibly changing the cam. I'm just trying to get into the high 10's on engine alone.

When you get ready to do, I'd like to see what you have for parts. Who's doing the porting for you?:drink:

I have Edelbrock Performer RPM rectangular ports and Victor Jr intake. I'll be doing the porting myself.

I take it you have ported before. If you want another point of view, I've had a some experience porting heads. I haven't done BB heads in a few years but still would like to see what going on.:judge:

Yes, I had about 100 hours of work into my old cast iron oval ports that I had before these.

SeanPlunk 12-05-2008 04:46 PM

I'm not going to make it tomorrow guys, sorry. The wedding we have to go to is at 1 and I have to be showered and ready to go by noon. I'll be going over to Leedom's though and going over the Cobra with a claybar and then waxing it up. It'll look good for next week, LOL.

That's a lot of hours. Were you using a flow bench? I can't remember the last time I put a 100 hours in a set of heads.

Hell, I started porting heads in 78. Too long ago to remember all the sets I have done. The last set I did was 2007. Those were my China heads.:drink:
