Motorgen Meet November 8th at Sonics in Fullerton

Hey everyone,

Thanks to everyone that came out to the last meet! We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 cars and it was awesome to have so much variety. We had Camaro's, Mustang's, 350z's, G35's, a Typhoon, Syclone, a couple Turbo Buicks, Vette's, RX8's, an dumdumdumdum, a couple Evo's, some Subaru's, a couple RX8's, and even a Viper. Here is a link to the pictures from last meet, and a from the cruise section.

The next meet is going to be on November 8th at the Sonic Burger in Anaheim again. It has a large lot with no speedbumps. Here is the address for anyone that needs it:

1632 N. Lemon Street
Anaheim, CA 92801
(714) 992-4500

We are planning on meeting at 7:30 again and will just hang out until everyone starts to roll out. I think we're planning on bringing out some drinks and snack food if anyone gets hungry, although I make no promises on how long it will last for. Also, for anyone interested we're planning an offroad trip that morning before the meet. You would probably need at least a 4WD Jeep or Truck, but here is a video of where we're going if any of you guys want to come.

Also, we're going to be out at California Speedway for the Street Legal Drags on November 2nd. We will be taping runs and some of us are running. I'm also trying to get an Ez-up tent and a propane grill to cook some food and tail gate. If anyone is planning to go and wants to be taped, register and let me know you're coming and we'll get you. We're planning on marking cars to be taped with a red colored dot or something on your passenger side window, so come find me when you get there and we'll mark the window to make sure.

If anyone has any questions or anything shoot me an email at SeanPlunk@gmail.com, give me a call or text at 714-322-2324, or shoot me a PM on Motorgen. I'll see you guys out there - it's going to be an awesome month of car stuff.

Sean

That's my message on all the cross boards - I forgot to put an actual link to a thread though. The next time I have a bump I'll add it in. So, who is coming besides me

I think I could get a helmet for you to borrow if you need one - let me know.

SeanPlunk 10-21-2008 09:25 AM

By the way, the Sonics is in Anaheim, not Fullerton. I had to go edit 25 threads because I was too tired last night to notice - DOH :bang:

Well I pretty much totally agree. Anwhoozle, this won't be too funny now since we've lost comedic timing, but it goes like this. I thought you were South Asian (i.e., Indian, Sri Lankan, etc.). Then you said the other day in a post you'd be the black guy with his head in a toilet. Now, when you said you corrupted that poor muslim fellow with pork, drinking and gambling all in one night . . . I was gonna say something clever like, "wouldn't be the first time" or "was it Dice?" I hope we can still be friends. Maybe I'll show you my private collection of Lugers some day. :smack:

Now I have a very dry and caustic sense of humor. And on more than one occasion I've been (falsely . . . somewhat) accused of being arrogant and condescending. That's quite a witches brew for pissing people off. I just think they're panzies, or pansys. . . however, you spell that.

also i bet u keep your lugers next to your fine collection iron cross patches and portraits of Dr. Mengele lol

It's quite the experience racing down the track for the first time. You just put your foot to the floor and go. Oh yeah, and for me I must shift...but miss 3rd every time.

I'm thinking this is going to be a heavy race weekend (meaning lots of cars lined up) so that requires you to get up before the sun and hag out outside the track and wait in line.

I hope to be there watching all you guys do your thing.

I'm usually too excited to sleep so I end up going to bed around 1am and then I’m up by 3:30 to 4. I do everything I need to do to my car the night before the races which doesn’t help any.

BlacknBoostn 10-22-2008 12:57 PM

wow there must be alot to prepare for... can anyone give me tips on prepping my car for race day? She's still stock... I figure I'll strip everything from inside the car (any loose items) carpet and spare from the back... what about my tires? still on street tires so my regular psi should be fine. anything i should double check before the tech does? I'm going to try and get there as early as possible.

For me, I clean the car I'm taking (hopefully I can bring both the Chevelle and my Cobra), get my nitrous bottle filled, set my timing (Cobra), check fluid levels, fill up on race fuel, check plugs and gap, check cap and rotor and wires, pack my tires, tools, helmet, chairs, EZ up, and other gear.

For you, just wash and vacumm your car and you should be ready.:smack:

Do you have a spare tire and related eqiupment. If so, remove it if you want, it's probably 500 hundredths. :smack: I've done a lot of research from lots of people of the years, and the consensus (at least for relatively powerful RWD V8s) is that even on street tires take the pressure down to roughly 25psi hot. Also, a very light burnout can be useful, not for heating the tires or getting them sticky, but for knocking off a layer of smulkus. Since you're a FWD, you probably can't do that without a line lock.

When I use to race the Chevelle on street tires (BFG Radial TA's) it did best with 27psi and a little spin to clean the tires. I tried heating them and that just makes them spin more. That was back when it was running mid 13's.

Makes sense.

Oh, and drive AROUND the water box if you aren't going to do any burnouts. You're in a stick. Look online for a tree simulator and explanation of how the tree works. You'll be using a standard tree, NOT a pro tree. It's now big deal, since you probably aren't trying to cut double zero lights yet, but knowing a little can make a big difference in getting a jump against other drivers, which is ultimately where a lot of the art and fun of it is IMO

94cobra69ss396 10-22-2008 03:00 PM

There are two types of Christmas Trees that the NHRA uses, Sportsman and Pro. The Christmas Tree pre-stage lights are connected to an infrared beam about two inches off the ground and about six to eight inches from the starting line. When the edge of your front tire rolls forward and "breaks" this beam the pre-stage lights will illuminate.

A second infrared beam is mounted on the actual starting line...When the edge of your front tire breaks this beam the stage lights illuminate. You can "nudge" forward at this point and "deep stage" which shortens the distance to your tripping the clocks. When the rear of your front tire clears the starting line infared beam, your time starts.

With the Sportsman Tree the three ambers march down in a .5 second sequence with the green illuminating .5 seconds after the third amber light. The goal is to "cut" a perfect .5 second light by anticipating the green. Anything under .5 seconds is a red light.

Your vehicle's reaction time (VRT) could be anything from .2 to .5 seconds and is obviously influenced by "how deep" you stage. In the real world this has to be factored into your strategy. The driver's reaction time (DRT) plus the VRT is your universe in Drag Racing. Races are won or lost on the starting line. It's not as simple as it looks!

Hehe, you forgot a few things...

Food (although there is a hotdog stand on site (which charges you $$$) and carls jr, jack in the crack, ampm, and some other joints the other direction)
Water
Jacket (5am is ASS cold)
Blanket
Something to keep your hands busy while you wait

I might have even still forgotten a few things

God I can't wait till I'm modded... no spray for me though. big turbo + accessories, good tuning, good clutch and tranny, suspension, engine mounts and some DRs should put me in the low 12s...

then I can check my tire pressure and go LOL

for my first time I'll probably clean the whip, pack up whatever I need to bring along and maybe some higher octane fuel... I run 91 all day maybe I'll find something higher somewhere for the day. It'll be fun! I still don't know how fast she is...

I get those things together in the morning before I leave otherwise the ice is melted. Things I do that morning are make a good breakfast usually eggs or an omelet and a protein shake, pack the cooler with drinks for the day, get together some snack foods (my wife usually come in the afternoon with my daughters and they bring me lunch), get my SFI race jacket (also a sweatshirt if it's really cold), go to the gas station to get 3 to 4 gallons of 91 to mix with the 5 gallons of VP 110 I added the night before and pick up ice for the cooler. Then I head to the track.

Don't waste your money on race fuel unless you plan on bumping up the timing or adding a little boost and are worried about it detonating. The higher the octane the harder it is to burn the fuel. If your car doesn't detonate on 91 then there is no reason to run anything higher. You may even run slower with the race fuel.

ya dude actually in evo land its been way over proven that just hopping up the boost, or throwing race fuel, or just doing both will make u slower because ur not tuned for it!, and im sure the same holds true for your car and every other car out there!

but ya dude like these guys said just slean out ur entire car, and if you want toss the spare tire and rear/passanger seats if your desprite lol, and just go at it. especialyl with your first time you should just go out there and get a feel for things and have a fun time with friends and people on here man.
