Motorgen Moonlight Run

Here's the video of the run.

[ORIGINAL POST]
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. We'll be meeting up at the Sonic Burger in Fullerton on October 11 and heading out at 9:30pm for a moonlight run. The moon will be close to full and, gods willing, a clear sky should make for some awesome late night scenery.
Be sure to let us know on the Calendar if you think you'll be coming. Click HERE to see the Event on the Calendar.

Well, that's gonna depend an aweful lot on the driver. I figure we leave Mickey Ds at 9:30 and end up on the other end (C), 140~ miles at 12:00 - 12:30, including pickup at (B) and mixed driving modes. Perfect time for a Deep Fried Sampler or Cheeseburger.

We have a built-in list system in the Events calendar. At least people who are registered here (and who wouldn't want to ) can just let others know right on the Calendar. Here's the event on the Calendar.

If my wife decides to sit it out, you can ride with me . . . if you think you can handle a 3 hour lecture on the perils of Socialism. :rolling: Just kidding, we can talk about cross hatch processing and chemical memory systems. More importantly, you can work . . . taking video. (Did I just write that, oh snap.)

Very clever you twat. Ok, how about, "open to any mode of transport that does not derive its means of power by way of its occupant."

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Here's a refresher......even if you weren't. :D

So when are you coming over to help me change the rear main seal?? After this Sat I'm going in.;)

Leedom 09-13-2008 02:00 AM

A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, curtious, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

Count me in on this one. Dad and I will have his Mach 1 up and running by then. Might as well put her through her paces on this one. Father and son driving their Mach1s together for the first time. This moment brought to you by the jackasses at Motorgen.com!

Okay, I'm getting feedback from almost everyone that this trip might be a little too long. What do you guys think, should we look into a shorter route? The objection I'm getting from most people is that the entire trip will cost them over $100 in gas alone and people seem tapped out. BGN8711 is quite vocal about this, and I understand. So, what do you guys think?

I'm open for suggestions, but seriously, there just aren't many other decent routes that close to the OC; especially that meet my two basic criteria: 1) somewhat away from city lights 2) somewhat interesting open terrain. Let me think about it.

I agree, it's not that easy. Aaron (03SonicSVT) was suggesting Ortega highway, but then told me how he thought more people die on Ortega than almost any other road in the US :sm_up_there: Also, how long is too long is one question. I'm thinking maybe somewhere in the 100mile roundtrip range might be good.

This first cruise we did up to Angeles Crest and back was a solid 160 miles, and the people who came seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. I'm all for making things as accessible as possible, but 100 miles round trip from the OC cuts yours options WAY down. I'll take a look at some lesser known roads in Corona/Riverside and see if I can't string something together. I wouldn't want to do Ortega becuase really requires your complete attention, whereas I was thinking this could be a bit more for enjoying nighttime scenery.

kdracer73 09-15-2008 08:36 PM

moonlite run

There is no Denny,s at 15fwy and hwy 76. Just a gas station and a Taco stand I think. Unless it is new. We could hit the Pala Casino, maybe they have a midnite buffet?:pot_stir: Closest food would be back at Temecula or heading into Oceanside on hwy 76.
Ortega hwy is not a option .
Caltrans has begun construction on a 3 mile section of Ortega Highway. Construction will continue until 2010. For more details tune your radio to AM 620 (Corona) and AM 1620 in San Juan Capistrano to hear the Caltrans announcement. The highway is OPEN during the day, and will close nightly from 8:30pm to 4:30am.

Expect delays throughout the day as east and westbound traffic will be sharing a lane. Check out the Commuter pages for other related news, live traffic cameras on the 91 freeway.

It'd be awesome if they had a Sonic Burger...

I'm not sure of exactly where the Dennys is, but I know there is one, I've passed out under one of their tables once . . . a long time ago. :sm_up_there:

[EDIT]
Okay, you made me go look it up, it's at:
28915 RANCHO CALIFORNIA RD.
TEMECULA,CA 92591 US

Which is actually before the 79 heading South, that is we'd pass it on our way to branching off on the 79. This means it's probably a good B and C location, where we could meet with the Southern guys before heading out on the actual cool part and end up at afterwards. What say yuse guys?

Vettezuki 09-15-2008 11:13 PM

Okay, THIS is about the shortest route I can conceive that would still be fairly interesting. Vote if you prefer this shorter or longer route.

I read up on it on tech, and it sounded like they might give it another shot or move it. I'll have to PM Dave later and check it out.

Vettezuki 09-16-2008 10:30 AM

Were people not buying anything from Mickey Ds. I always bought a Chicken Sandwich or something and set the bag on top of the car. If most people did that, I guarantee they won't bother us.

That would probably work. Dave posted up that he really doesn't have time to run it anymore, so I've volunteered to do it. I'll wait until I hear back from him and then will go from there.
