F'ing CARB!

The maximum allowable limits were lowered since the last time I had the Cobra smog tested 2 years ago so the Cobra failed. I had to install new cats, cap, rotor and plugs and it just barely passed. I hate CARB!

I've heard mixing in meth will help. I wonder if you ran some race gas if it would run super clean.

And yeah, fuck carb.

They actually nailed you for only having 2 cats on the car?

94cobra69ss396 09-08-2011 03:11 PM

Everything was low except HC. Max allowed at 15 mph is 59 and I had 57. Max at 25 is 34 and I had 34.

why fix it all when you can just find a crooked shop?

No, he actually said something about that but when he looked it up in the book it showed that I only had to have two.

I've never had it not pass and I like being legal. There's no need to find a crooked shop when I can pass. I'm just not happy that it is barely passing. I may need to do a cam swap to one with a wider LSA. The E303 has a 110 and I think it would do better with one in the 112-114 range.

silverscmustang 09-08-2011 03:59 PM

oh ok lol

Shaolin Crane 09-08-2011 04:04 PM

Not alot of cams with the lift and lsa you're talking about, ive been looking ands its not promising, suppose you could degree the e303 to 112-113*

Dropping a few hundred extra isnt fun, hence why the new car is all legal, basically ripping off Ron's car, not very promising seeing him fail though.

So glad my car only has one more sniffer before it's just Plug 'N Play OBD-II check & visual for year 2000+ engined vehicles. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/09-10/...introduced.pdf My BAR approved engine swap was from a 2001, so my car follows the smog rules for a 2001 Camaro SS.

I have much stricter requirements on the 2001 LS, but my 114 224/224 is as big as they get before trouble arises.

My BAR approved swap was also from a 2001. What are you referring to?

Shaolin Crane 09-08-2011 09:44 PM

Ron, this may be the cam we're limited to running, seems to be a much better cam as well, im going to have my stock cam reground to these specs (about $70)

There's actually quite a few that I think would do better than the E303. This is the one Steve at Powertrain Dynamics recommended to me when I first bought the Vortech but I already had the E303.

Thats basically the same cam, except it has too much duration, 220 or less is needed

Someone should make some cheap stamped steel, pinion, under ratio rockers, just for passing smog. People would buy them.

Sounds like an excellent black market product. But that would be wrong. . .

Shaolin Crane 09-10-2011 12:41 AM

I dont think killing lift would do much for smog when duration and overlap is what makes them dirty, annyhow procomp makes such a thing you talk about, irrc the stamped steel roller tip rockers are about $35
