4th Annual Angeles Crest Cruise May 15th!

Time for our yearly Angeles Crest Cruise! This is the best cruise of the year, don't miss it!

The plan is to meet up at Vons in Tujunga at 11:45a.m. The address is:

7789 Foothill Blvd
Tujunga, CA 91042

We'll leave the lot at 12:30p.m.

ACH doesn't currently go all the way through because of this:

Because of that, I'm changing the route to this. Times will remain the same. See you all on Sunday!

We had over 60 cars at GMR last month, and I'm hoping to beat that for Angeles Crest. See you all on the 15th!

Oh look, a new map and meet spot. Nice. Turning left onto Oro Vista from the old spot was a nightmare. Good work Sean. :)

Yeah, it was horrible. This should be MUCH easier.

jem0473 04-24-2011 05:47 PM

I'm gonna try and get some of the Lancaster/Palmdale peeps to join. I'll post this up on our page and see if anyone wants to join. If not, then it will be myself (3) and my husband Sam (X). Looking forward to meeting some of you!

silvein 04-24-2011 08:13 PM

Hmmm, my S2K buddies are bugging me to go to SoW that day... I might have missed the signup deadline though.

Skip it and come to Angeles Crest instead

Vettezuki 04-26-2011 03:37 AM

Well lads, this might be a business travel day for me, so I'm tentatively out. I'll arrange for cameras and whatnot so we still get MG coverage. This makes me a sad Panda, but daddy has got to bring home the bacon.

AARP 04-27-2011 12:16 AM

Jem got the clubroadster forums covered, so expect at least a few more miatas.

AARP 04-27-2011 08:57 PM

Wow, got more of a response then I originally anticipated. Watch out you Eco-tech's and S2K's, you might get outnumbered :D

Also may feature an Ariel Atom...

From caltrans website http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi
Quote:

IS CLOSED FROM ISLIP SADDLE TO 5 MI WEST OF BIG PINES (LOS ANGELES CO)
- FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE
This wont ruin the cruise, but we may have to turn around and return the way we came. Has anyone driven this recently to know if it is closed or not?

This is the area im talking about.

Still an awesome cruise to this point and back. There might even be less traffic because of this.

Dude, even though I may have to drive to Phoenix that night, I might just have to make this regardless if we're going to get a new turnout like that.

I'm hoping for very little traffic. I'll have to do a little more research into that closure...

Haha Ben used "dude". Don't know why it made me laugh but I just don't picture him saying "dude"

I bumped this on most of the Mazda forums as well as the other Evo boards too! Got quite a few people interested!

Looking forward this cruise! The last cruise we did was Malibu (not with this group) and that was awesome! Exploring CA is fun! I thought the east coast had great roads but CA has both the roads and views! Great combo's!

jedhead 04-28-2011 08:34 PM

You can look up some more roads at this link

I look forward to this cruise every year! I gotta double check all my rear new suspension before the cruise and I will be ready.

like moving around the panhard mount :smack:

Let me know if you want a hand

AARP 05-01-2011 02:39 PM

Uh oh. Quoted from one of the guys at ClubRoadster.

"The road will not be open before this drive is gonna take place so pack a lunch or make other plans for food. There is a washout between Islip Saddle and Vincent's Gap, the entire westbound lane is at the bottom of the canyon."

Small White Car 05-01-2011 02:44 PM

ACH will be closed when this drive is scheduled to occur, there is a washout before Islip Saddle, the westbound lane slid down the side. The damage is pretty extensive and is going to take some stabilization.

A word of warning, the forest day passes are voluntary, you don't need to buy them in order to park along side the roadway. The USFS issued 'tickets' are nothing more than begging for cash, they have no teeth if you don't pay them.

USFS law enforcement tickets however are enforceable and they like to write tickets for things like no front plates and other ticky-tac equipment violations.

I'm new, don't know if what I said is common knowledge or not around here but always good to share helpful information.

Sincerely,

SWC (one of the roadster guys from cr.net)

See you n the 15th!

Redondo Jon 05-01-2011 03:57 PM

What a bunch of slackers. (Forest Service? Cal Trans?) Fix the road damn it; don’t you know that we have plans!

yellowsnake01 05-01-2011 06:09 PM

Hey guys, looks like another newbie will be joining ya. Found out the business trip I was supposed to be on won't be happening til early June, so I'll be lookin forward to meeting you guys.

Vettezuki 05-01-2011 06:29 PM

Well, that kinda blows. I'll talk to Sean tonight and we'll decide what to do next. Probably just go to the next position Palomar.

Small White Car 05-01-2011 08:18 PM

Oofah!

Palomar?!

Damn, that's kinda far. Guess I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Krwy 05-02-2011 07:33 PM

So the entire ACH will be closed because of the washout?

The area of the closure right now is from Islip Saddle to Big Pines.

Small White Car 05-02-2011 08:04 PM

No, the road is closed about 11 miles past Newcombs Ranch, just before the tunnels at Eagles Roost Picnic Area. This is actually a few miles before Islip Saddle. The closure from Islip Saddle to Big Pines is the yearly winter closure which is usually lifted around this time of year but with record snowfall over the winter they are talking about June.

Krwy 05-02-2011 08:12 PM

So in a roundabout way, we're fugged?

SeanPlunk 05-02-2011 08:30 PM

Looking at options. Will report back soon.

Small White Car 05-02-2011 08:31 PM

Meh, maybe. If you're headed for Palomar then no.

If you had your heart set on Wrightwood then yes but if you just wanted to peruse the Angeles National Forest let me throw this out.

AARP asked me to do a little somethin'.
