February 13th, Nicks North OC Loop

Here's a video of the run.

---------------------------------------
OP

Meet across the street from Nick's in Fullerton (intersection of Orangehtorpe and Brookhurst) at 3:30pm. Leave at 4:00pm for a north OC loop, probably including Turnbull canyon, a relatively short, but fun canyon run. More precise details to come later.

The route.

AARP 01-31-2011 12:26 AM

SeanPlunk 01-31-2011 10:46 AM

I'll get everything updated tonight. Sorry I'm so late, I had the flu and then a crazy, crazy work project last week and didn't have time to work on much.

Kozak 01-31-2011 12:55 PM

I don't know about this Nick's but gimme some more info and I should be there

Turnbull is basically perfect for a Miata. Big power isn't that usefull up there, it's all about handling and balance.

mciggy 01-31-2011 01:34 PM

I think i should be able to make this event, with a friend or two. how many ppl we expecting?

Varies widely. Something like this could be anywhere from 20-30 on up to 50+.

I'll probably be there and if I can't drive my '91 by then, I'll run my '97 in sequential mode. It pulls nicely down low that way. :)

How is it compared to Palomar? I'd like to not get dizzy this time.

Heck I didn't know they had a sequential mode. Anywho, the curvy bits are much shorter, mostly between B and C, which is itself only like 5 miles or so. But that section is WAY more "intense" than anything at Palomar. By that I mean you will be constantly steering, tight turns, etc. The rest is pretty chill and a big chunk of the "cruise" is just getting to and from the area on the Fwy.

You missed the 21 switch-backs in 8 miles on Palomar, since you missed the turn off :jester::jester:

This is true. . .

kdracer73 02-07-2011 10:57 AM

I might be out ! At least the Camaro is. Trans made a loud bang in second while slowing down on th way to work. It would not downshift manually into 2nd or 3rd after. If I get time I am gonna drop the pan and have a looksy....But if it is broke...I am too ! Will bring the Solara or DD instead.

Sonic03SVT 02-09-2011 07:59 PM

Im in. woot.

Hi all. I just joined this group and this seems like a good chance to meet some local enthusiast and start playing with my car again. Looking forward to the events.

10yearrx7 02-09-2011 08:31 PM

^Another 7 owner is on here... Good to know. Hopefully I will see you at a future cruise.

Word.

Vettezuki 02-11-2011 02:09 PM

BTW, we've got 15 yeses and 6 maybes on FB. Combined with the ones who don't say anything but just show up, I'd say we're at a very easy 30 cars.

Kozak 02-11-2011 04:10 PM

yea, about half of those on Facebook are my crew, lol. List just for fun: Me(GTO), Gbaraud on the forums(silver charger SRT8 from last GMR), Jetta turbo, civic, 2 sentras(yea, I didn't choose the cars), an unknown, a new SS Camaro, and an S2000. LS1 240Z and stock 350Z I rolled with last time wont be attending. Quite a ragtag crew, but all in good fun.

Vettezuki 02-12-2011 01:40 PM

I'll be bringing directions tomorrow, but i think I'm going to chop off the Fullerton Road section (ran it last night). It's a fun road, but it's very tight and essentially a residential back road, including a golf course with a lot of crossings, may not be so much fun on a Sunday evening if there's many people out. So we'll just come all the way down Hacienda and shoot over to Beach Blvd.

Redondo Jon 02-12-2011 05:47 PM

So we'll be on Beach Blvd. heading south to: the 91, or the 5?

We're talking about the end of hte route. I'll make the directsions to take Beach South to 5 South -> immediate interchange (stay in right lane) to 91 East to immediate exit at Brookhurst.

Redondo Jon 02-12-2011 06:06 PM

Gotcha  I just needed to alter the plot on my Nav. unit.

09sscalicobalt 02-12-2011 07:40 PM

should be there tomorow with some of the members of socalecotecs and david in his new evoooooo too lol

Vettezuki 02-12-2011 09:55 PM

See OP for the route.

Jon, one final small change. Rather than taking the 5 to 91, just going to take Auto Center to Orangethorpe.

I'll mention this tomorrow again, but this is a pretty straightforward run. But there are two places where you may be tempted to go off course. They are C and D. At C Turnbull Canyon Rd. goes left. DON'T. Go straight. Likewise at D Las Lomitas goes left. DON'T. Veer right onto Tetley.

09sscalicobalt 02-12-2011 10:03 PM

ok cool sounds good btw hows the nicks burger place? ive never been is it like 5 guys or in n out or bobs big boys or is it totally its own lil place lol

Redondo Jon 02-12-2011 11:43 PM

Thanks for the heads-up. I’m double checking my plot right now. Using Auto Center Dr. as an alternate to the freeway is a rather elegant solution. I tip my hat to you sir. Hope to see you tomorrow.

Why if you thought that was elegant, wait til you see (hopefully) the last refinement. Thanks to MustangRay for the tip on going up to Beverly and taking that straight in instead of mucking around with Whittier Blvd.

The route.
