Taking Suggestions for February 2011 Cruise

Howdy ya'lls. At the moment we're planning our old stand by, GMR, but would like to expand our repetoire. Anyone have some suggestions? We've yet to do a Malibu Canyon run.

C5Natie 01-17-2011 10:35 AM

Malibu Cyn is great but a few weeks ago I drove Mulholland Dr and it was beautiful. It was a long drive, like 2hrs, but I got off the 101 on Sunset and went from there and eneded up on PCH to get the 10 and go home. Its far but a great drive to do once in a while.

C5Natie 01-17-2011 10:36 AM

I should still have the route in written directions if ever they be needed.

blackax 01-17-2011 10:36 AM

May I suggest State Route 243

I haven't does this yet but it looks twisty. Now that I have my PCM code figured out i'll try and run this sometime this week or weekend and take a quick video to see if you guys would like it.

Sad panda wants to drive :(

One of the reasons I was considering GMR is because it's a little more local and not so long. I believe Leedom went through and entire tank of gas doing Palomar and it's not so cheap at the moment...

Ya I ended up using 19.9 gallons of gas that day...I don't think gas is gonna be getting any cheaper anytime soon sadly

kdracer73 01-17-2011 12:25 PM

I used 18 gal too ! My car went faster as my wallet got lighter !

cartwheels4amile 01-17-2011 12:34 PM

Well damn, I wanted to do Palomar but missed it. GMR was fun though, I'd certainly go back as I've only ever driven it once. Ortega is usually slow, so that's out.

I'd say let's try Malibu since it's something new?

Current futures contracts seem to indicate rather the opposite.

I have been on it from Banning to just past Idyllwild. Twisty and probably crowded on weekends. Real nice park with a lake (Lake Fulmor) about 3/4 way from banning to idyllwild, but need a park permit, There are so many different jurisdiction parks up there I can't remember if its State, County or City.

In Idyllwild in downtown but on a back street east of 243 is a good pizza place with a big parking lot there is a market there also. If they are open and repairs are needed the Idyllwild garage is not the cheapest but they are honest, unlike Certified Tire in Banning.

Wow, if y'all used that much fuel my car will never make it. I only have a 15 gallon tank.

Well Some of us did a turbo buick run early that day too. I used less then a quarter of a tank on the motorgen part of the day. I think I drove 350 miles that day

Redondo Jon 01-17-2011 05:38 PM

Ortega Hwy. (Our regular route) At least there won’t be 87 metric tons of :censored: gravel being kicked up onto our cars.

I'm lucky to get 150 miles to a tank, i have an issue somewhere.

Chuck 01-17-2011 07:47 PM

Yeah your tank is to small!

10yearrx7 01-18-2011 12:10 AM

No cruise for me for a while. Went out on a 6 hour cruise yesterday and i'm sure it was hard on the car. I only have about 2300 miles on my rebuilt motor and i'm not trying to blow it anytime soon.

We started in Temecula and went all the way to ocotillo wells the longest way we could find. All the way down the 79 then up through Julian and the Banner grade, then on to the s-2 then on to the s-22 then turned on some road and a little while and a lot of twisties later we made it. Anyway, about 4 of those 6 hours were drive time and I was on the car about 2-3 of those hours probably.

while i agree, the tank is the 07 is roughly the same size, there is no reason a stock 5.0 engine should be getting 10mpg with only 54k on it

duhveed 01-18-2011 06:57 AM

Malibu!

Holy crap, I used 20 gallons driving around for a week, back and forth to San Diego from Orange County, towing a trailer one way.

How about we do a local cruise and a meet at Nicks burgers like we used to do in the past.

Same here, and I use an e85 mix. I wouldve been assed out!

I did a round trip to Lancaster (196mi) and still used less than 3/4 tank. How did you guys burn 18-19gal?

gbaraud 01-20-2011 11:08 AM

I like either Malibu Canyon or Mulholland DR.. I would Probably lean towards Malibu Canyon it's a longer route.

Vettezuki 01-20-2011 11:49 AM

See poll. I'm narrowing down.

jedhead 01-21-2011 12:56 AM

I am in the whatever camp.

Bob

C5Natie 01-21-2011 06:18 AM

As long as I dont use 20gal of gas! Lol. Since I can do GMR anytime and we've done it also a lot something different would be cool.

I know if we do Malibu i'll be right about a full tank but i'm still down, gas isn't that bad.

Shaolin Crane 01-21-2011 11:04 AM

How about somewhere truck friendly? So Chuck and I can join in :D

mciggy 01-21-2011 10:37 PM

super down for malibu or mulholland, amazing road as well as views. Can't go wrong driving next to the beach.

Vettezuki 01-23-2011 03:19 AM

Ok, deleted old poll, narrowed to two choices. Make one. If you don't care abstain.

jedhead 01-23-2011 01:35 PM

Abstain.
