February Motorgen GMR Cruise February

I think for the next cruise we're hitting up Glendora Mountain Road on February 13th or 20th. Details will be forthcoming. Mark your calendars though boys :drink:

EDIT (Vettezuki): It'll be the 20th. Details to follow.

jedhead 01-13-2010 10:49 PM

Hopefully it will be clear of snow and ice. I drove the road last October.

Later in the summer we should take route 2

Damian 01-14-2010 03:42 AM

Woohoo!! Im off work for once! Im in. Also, Id recommend you guys try out Glendora Ridge Road, its seriously a blast. Where the two roads fork off, its perfect for a resting place, then just take GRR to the "camp ground", then turn around and go back. Its seriously a blast. I could spend all day up on those two roads.

Ill invite the MKR guys, and I know Ill get at least 2 cars to come.

SoCalC55 01-14-2010 08:26 AM

Most definitely in. I have some shinny new rear tires that need to be broken in the right way!

Great. Do you have a route that you would recommend? If you want to google map it out for me I'd appreciate your opinion.

BRUTAL64 01-14-2010 07:36 PM

Well, you guys know the 13th is the night before 14th- St Valentines Day. Could be a problem for some.:boggled:

enkeivette 01-14-2010 07:38 PM

It's a good idea to schedule this cruise when lots of us will be gone for the weekend with our girlfriends/ wives.

SeanPlunk 01-14-2010 07:41 PM

I just always was trying to keep thing consistent and do every 2nd Saturday. Because of the holiday though, I guess we could move it back to the 20th.

SeanPlunk 01-14-2010 07:47 PM

I added a poll - vote up.

SoCalC55 01-14-2010 07:55 PM

Where's the "either works" option, haha

enkeivette 01-14-2010 08:43 PM

John will be coming again, with his chip installed. And he demands rematches.

One of the guys on Audizine (with his fancy quattro :p) said that's what makes it fun and he resents your hatred of snow :jester:

Yeah, I'm trying to convince him to let me black out those gay tail lights. His car is damn fast with the chip, I'll bet it would take an SRT Charger easy.

enkeivette 01-15-2010 12:18 AM

Is that C6 Z06 going again? I want to race him on the freeway. Just from like 60-100, nothing crazy.

Ill try and map it out for you. But we start off at the Shell station right off the 210 on Azusa canyon rd, then head north to GMR, hang the right on the bridge, go past the camp grounds, hang a right at the first fork in the road, go all the way up until you hit the next fork (which is Glendora Ridge Road), rest there, then go down GRR till you hit the RV park (if you wanna call it that), rest, then head back to GMR to the fork, rest, then head down GMR to finish it off.

This route is

Damian 01-15-2010 07:00 AM

I didnt post the directions because there really isnt anything to go off of (address wise). But at least that gives you an idea of where we are going.

Im working on the 20th, off on the 13th.

kestrelprodigal 01-15-2010 11:11 AM

GMR sounds like fun, just be really careful there has been a lot of busts going on up there.

Any other routes we can take? Maybe a northern route and then take PCH south back to HB area.

Have to check your broom stick a few times did ya?

enkeivette 01-15-2010 05:35 PM

There's some really cool mountain road not too far away. I used to ride it with my friend in his AWD Audi. It was kind of abandoned because they paved a less windy route through the same mountain. I went up there Sat night and it was like a mini Fast and the Furious gathering.

I'm going to edit the route down. I think the last one was a little long. I think the sweet spot is somewhere between 30 and 60 miles total. Angeles Crest and Palomar (if we do it) will be longer though.

Less freeway and more PCH.

MG monthly events are typically 2nd Saturdays of each month. Learn it, live it, be it!

SeanPlunk 01-21-2010 11:21 PM

I think this is the route I'm going with.

The staging area would be a very large shopping center with a Kohl's in it. TONS of parking. The staging area is also less than 10 miles to the start of the run. This should allow us to not have problems getting separated and lost. At the end of the cruise their is an EXCELLENT mexican food restaurant called La Tolteca that is actually on San Gabriel Mountain Rd. They have the best corn tortillas I've ever had - I usually buy a few dozen when I'm there. They also have a good size parking lot. I'll call ahead to see if they would be able to accommodate about 50 people though. What do you all think?

I look forward to this! I make my own corn tortillas and have not found a better one yet. (Except for my Mexican friend's mom back in the day.)

These are made fresh on-site and are excellent :judge:

SeanPlunk 01-23-2010 04:27 PM

I think I'm leaning towards the 13th with a meet-up time of 3-3:30. That should get us through the canyon and to food by about 5-5:30. What do you all think?
