300
Sparta and the Battle of Thermopylae has always fascinated me. Now there is a new movie based on it . . . well, sort of. If you liked Sin City or have an interest in ancient history and some of the roots of Western Civilization, then "300" might give you quite a fix.
This looks like something worth seeing on the big screen. Maybe I should start a thread in the regional forums. I haven't been to an iMax in a long time, but this could be cool. |
Looks like a seriously cool movie. My only reservation stems from the fact that Sin City looked cool, but I didn't really like it that much...

Interview and Q & A with Frank Miller about 300

So far 300 is getting good reviews. I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, it definitely looks pretty cool. If it continues to get good reviews we should get the crew together and go see it.

Hey this is Eric. Finally registered.
I'm totally down to go see this movie. Any time is good, just let me know. The rainbow smily B-Real used is classic. Made me laugh quite a bit actually. Peace out yo's |
Review
Like no movie before, 300 makes me want to run around in a loin cloth and red cape, poking people with my stick . . . I mean spear. Can't wait for Halloween, better hit the gym.
Actually, it was a better blend of movie making elements than I expected. I anticipated it would be like watching a video game, and while there certainly plenty of scenes that fit that bill, there was a basic story line, a bit more of humanistic touch, and surprising amount of humor than the previews would lead one to expect. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much the dialog integrated Greek historical writings, however stereotypical they may have been. Anybody who wants to tear the movie apart on a factual basis could easily do so for what it omits, romanticizes, and exaggerates, but anybody who goes to see a movie like this expecting an accurate recounting of history is totally cracked out anyway. In short, I expected it to be fun to watch, but in the end it turned out to be a decent movie as well. On a separate note, I wouldn't mind seeing another retelling of this story from a more naturalistic and historically accurate point of view. Maybe 300 will kick off a slew of films based on the rich history of Greece. |
It was better than I expected as well. I was entertained pretty much the whole way through. The special effects were quite good as well. I think it'll be really awesome to see it on HD-DVD when it comes out.

Arite guys, sorry i flaked today, my cousin just had a baby so went to visit w/ the family this afternoon...then saw 300 at 10 and it was indeed bloody wonderful.
I cant wait till its out on blu-ray...i mean HD-DVD...i mean...ah screw it, DIVX!! |
I was thoroughly entertained the entire way through the movie. The occasional one-liners were great for a chuckle.
The thing I was most surprised about was the great acting by a relatively inexperienced cast. The lead actor did a wonderful job. If you haven't seen it, see it. It's worth it. IMAX would make it that much better. |
