Speed Ventures at The Roval
Speed Ventures is running at California Speedway this weekend 1/16-17. I signed up for Sunday the 17 to see if I can beat my previous best time. If I remember it was a 2:02 or 2:01. I'm pretty sure I can beat that since I only had front brakes at the time and didn't know it. Let me know if anyone one want to come out. I think Guy is going to come with me and ride along as well as help me play with camber settings.

As of now I don't see why I can't make it, just need to dig my helmet out.
|
You can borrow mine if you can't find it.
|
I have an extra helmet and extra fire jacket that I will have with me. In fact it's already in the car. I hope you can come. I clearance and marked my CC plates so I can set the camber back to -2 after we're done running for the day.

Ron,
Do they charge to watch and if so how much? I'm not ready to run just yet. let me know. |
There's a $10 gate fee if I remember correctly.
|
You guys have a pyrometer to measure tire temps?
|
I verified there is a $10 gate fee. I do have a digit temp gauge to check the tire temps.
|
Wonder what it costs to get your tires filled with nitrogen these days.
|
I'm not that serious that I would spend the money to fill my tires with nitrogen. Hell, I'm still running too soft rear springs with shocks off of an Expedition from the wrecking yard. They were even coil overs that I pulled the coils off of.
|
I have a set of race craft springs here at the shop that would probably work pretty well with the torque arm.
|
Do you know what rate they are? The MM Road &Track rears I have now are 280.
|
So to stay with my I'm cheap theme I bought a pair of front springs off a Ford Ranger for $35 at Pick-a-Part and modified them to work on the rear of the Cobra. They seem to work fairly well.
Sorry we I don't have any video from today's fun well Guy actually has one lap that he took with his phone and got us black flagged but I did beat my previous best. In fact I went faster each time out. My fastest in the first session was a 1:59.750 which was the third fastest for the group. We ended up not running in the second session because my oil dip stick blew out. In the third session I ran 1:57.9?? which was the fastest for the session so I got to start the fourth in the pole position. Guy didn't run with me in the fourth session so I was a couple hundred pounds lighter and ran my new best of 1:54.936 which again was the fastest for the group. |

Yeah god forbid I hold up a phone.

Feel like you have any more time to shave with your current setup? |

Yes, I can still improve. The car still pushes a little so I think it could use a little more camber. Plus there are a couple of sections I can still improve my line and my braking on. But even with that I don't think it has more than half a second. One second at the most. If I remember correctly Carlos was running around a 1:54 in his Vette when he was running his R888 tires which are equivalent to the NT01 I'm running.

If you could keep your entry speed up without fear of the brakes fading, I think there's a big improvement capable. I mean we did almost hit 150 that open run before backing off. With offset camber and no passenger you could probably hold 125-127 through the bend. |
With just me I did hit 150 and held 125. It actually accelerated coming out of turn 2 in 6th as well and hit 130 before I had to brake. I think that is another spot I can improve a little but I would only do it if I was running straight VP110. Instead of shifting early to 6th I could leave it in 5th so it would accelerate quicker out of turn 2. Then again I would need better braking because I was braking just in time to make a good entry in turn 3.

Consistently 1:51-1:52 when fresh. The difference is how they fall off over laps, not so much when fresh.
|
Are you sure about that? I found a video on his YouTube account and then looked up the times on Speed Ventures and his fastest time was a 1:55.548.

Well it's been a long time since I've been here. I'm glad to see you making it ou to the track Ron. Those are great times for any car. I'm glad you took the time to find my old lap time for the Roval. Looks like your more interested in them than I am. Lol. It is a nice trip down memory lane. Regardless here is the link to the very next day after the day you shared. That day I ran a 1:52.7. I sure if you dig harder in the NASAproracing results there will be some low 1:52 and one of two high 1:51. As far as the 1:55.xxx on day one goes. I don't really remember what happened that day. I was making a ton of suspension changes trying to find time.
I wish you continued luck at the Roval. I'm out. http://www.speedventures.com/results...id=-2146921065 |
I wanted them to compare. I know our cars are not equalivent but I was hoping that with the R888 they would be closer than with the Hoosiers so I could see how my times were. There were a bunch of Mustangs with me in my group and some were comparable to mine but the closest one to my time was 5 seconds slower. The next was Ricardo with a 2:02. The car that I was battling with all day was a C5 Z06 and his best was a 1:56 but I don't know what he had done to it. Your car I at least know what's done.
