Might look into wraps now, they use to be expensive but complete wrap jobs can be had for about 800-1000

That's good to know. Is that like solid color, or with designs and stuff?

They charged us 1000 for a solid color with additional decals for R1. That was a show deal though, you can get anything you want. But the price goes up. It's about 4k for a chrome colored wrap. I'll ask him when I see him next what kind of price he can give me.

For a motorcycle? Sounds like a rip off

I'd rather just paint it.

Where did I say anything about a motorcycle?
Paint takes weeks, wrap takes about an hour, and paint will never look like this

Examples of wraps now a days

Faster, cheaper and more durable than paint, most race teams of all genres wrap their cars after paint and body. Use to cost as much as paint, not anymore.

The old Vette is painted. You can tell from the cowl reflecting on the hood, vinyl doesn't have that kind of depth, neither does a single stage paint job. Id be surprised if the GTR is fully wrapped. C5R, I dunno.

Mmmm . . do you have to prep the body a ton for wraps?

Yes. I know the owner of Impressive wraps, i see a hundred cars a week with wraps of all kinds. Some you'd never know were wraps unless they told you.

enkeivette 08-27-2013 04:08 PM

Cool... that old Corvette isn't a wrap. If you had any proof other than that you found it in google image results you would have stated it by now.

Shaolin Crane 08-27-2013 04:17 PM

Nah, don't care. I've been working, it's a wrap and i'm gonna leave it at that cause I don't care.

Nah :)

PS, vinyl is plastic and urethane paint is plastic. The vinyl plastic is softer so it is less likely to chip, but it's also more likely to tear. I don't know that it would be better

Shaolin Crane 08-27-2013 11:11 PM

never seen one tear yet, even when they've been keyed it doesn't peel back. Pretty impressive stuff. When the apply it to the car they add heat and it shrinks into place.
