Car Movies
I'd like to start a list of car and motorcycle related movies. I'm still formulating the criteria, but if you don't see one on this list you think should be reply and I'll add it.
Examples that just barely make the cut: "Dukes of Hazard", "The Italian Job" Examples that didn't make the cut: "Joe Dirt" (Though he sure loves Hemis) NOTE: Just because a movie is on this list doesn't mean it's a good movie (e.g., Driven, Redline). CARS: Bullit - Contains one of the great original car chases. The Big Wheel [1949] The Cannonball Run Cannonball Run II The Car Cars Christine Corvette Summer - Luke Skywalker is chasing his stolen Corvette; need I say more. The Crowd Roars [1932] Days of Thunder Death Proof Deadline Auto Theft Driven Dukes of Hazard The Fast and the Furious 2 Fast 2 Furious Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift Gone in 60 Seconds [1974] Gone in 60 Seconds [2000] Grand Prix The Gumball Ralley Mad Max - Strangely attractive lifestyle Hooper The Italian Job [1969] The Italian Job [2003] The Junkman Le Mans [1971] The Racers[1955] Redline - Makes "Fast and Furious" seem like Shakespeare. Redline 7000 [1965] Smokey and the Bandit - That TA was my first clear car memory, and I wanted one. Smokey and the Bandit II Stroker Ace Talladega Nights The Transformers : The Movie [1986] Transformers [2007] Used Cars Vanishing Point The Wraith MOTORCYCLES: Easy Rider The Leather Boys The Loveless Quadrophenia The World's Fastest Indian Biker Boyz BOTH: Dust To Glory |
What was that movie where Burt Reynolds was the stuntman...he drove a red firebird...... oh...and speaking of Burt: Stroker Ace was a "nascar" flick. I know it doesn't count, but in Mr Deeds, Deeds bought the whole town C5 convertables at the end of the flick:"Damn..these things are fast....***zoooommmmmmm*** CRASH!!... it's ok...I'm fine" lol

I added "Days of Thunder" (how could I forget), "Vanishing Point", which I didn't know about at all, and the "World's Fastest Indian" (a great movie in my opinion). I also remembered a great old suspense movie, "The Car". "XXX" doesn't quite cut it for this list and I'm on the fence about "American Graffiti". What do you guys think? |
What was the movie where all the trucks try to kill people?
not great but worth a late night laugh |

These are borderline. I'll have to think about them. |
Steve McQueen, motor movie god
1- The motorcycle jump at the end of "the Great Escape".
2- 68 GT 390 airborn in "Bullitt" during the best chase scene ever filmed. No computer generated crap or special effects, just pure Detroit muscle car. For you Mopar guys, yea the Charger R/T 440 would eat the 'stang's lunch in the real world. 3- My favorite, the pure gut wrenching force-of-nature primal roar of the Porche 917 in "Le Mans". Of any car, street or track, the 917 is the car I'd most like to drive, assuming that I could work up the nad to actually get in the beast. |
Gumball Rally.

While looking for "King of the Mountain"--which is NOT on DVD and is on VHS starting $30 used and $125 new--- I ordered HOT RODS TO HELL and DIRTY MARY - CRAZY LARRY.
Hot Rods to Hell takes me back to 1966 and my FIRST movie date-- parents had to drive us there and pick us up in downtown Whittier. God awfull movie--but one that is great to watch, |
Do we really not have Herbie the Love Bug in here yet?! If you are going to have the Italian Job making it then I think that the Back to the Future Series should be in here. Don't tell me that whenever you think of that Movie Series you do not think of the Delorean!!
last but not least, Tucker: The Man And His Dream Here is a pretty good list... http://www.hotrod.com/thehistoryof/h...ies/index.html |

I'd say"American Graffiti" is a yes as the movie revolved around the 60's cruising and street racing culture. Harrison Ford drove the bad ass double-nickle Chevy.
A few others for consideration: "Two Lane Blacktop" - 55 Chevy and 71 GTO Judge race across the country for pinks. Starred Warren Oates as "GTO" with James Taylor and Dennis Wilson (I believe) driving the 55. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067893/ "The Last Ride" - Campy movie featuring 69 GTO Judge and an 04 GTO with Dennis Hopper. This movie was really a thinly veiled Pontiac marketing tool for the new generation GTO. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402336/ |

Got the movies. Now all I have to do is watch them. Watched them this week-end. Darlene actually enjoyed both of them. Hot Rods to Hell is so COOL |
Wow, no said the Wrath. Has anyone seen that movies? True is popular in the 80's but it had the Dodge M4S tubro intercepter racing up and down the mountains against all kind of fast cars.
Also I vote for the movie Christine. There was alot of nice cars in that movie. |
