My C5 LS3 Vortech Build

Hey guys. I havent posted here in a while. Lifes been crazy the last few months but Im finally getting some breaks my way. I came up on a Vortech supercharger kit for my C5. Im having the guys at RPM Motors in Santa Clarita do the install. Heres a few pics they sent me today. Hope to be driving the car in a few days. Should see around 7-8psi of boost for around 620rwhp.

Waiting on some tubing but its coming along nicely.

Intercooler, trans cooler n rad

They welded solid mounts for the rad

Blower w/bracket installed

Did the kit come with an intercooler? How much compression does your engine have?

Redondo Jon 08-13-2013 10:47 AM

What, you’re not fast enough already? ;) Nice.

Yes it came with the kit. The motor is at 10.5:1cr.

What head unit came with the kit, is it the S trim?

Yes Si trim thats uses the engine oil for lubrication and cooling. In the future I'll probably upgrade to the self contained T trim.

94cobra69ss396 08-13-2013 04:51 PM

Is the T trim street legal?

Yes. Only difference is the oil is internally contained. You just change it out like you would a rear end.

C5Natie 08-13-2013 04:59 PM

Correction, mine is a v2 that uses engine oil, v3 is self contained. Si trim os good for 680rwhp according to A&A while the T trim is good for 750rwhp. Both are legal depending on application as far as I know.

94cobra69ss396 08-13-2013 05:13 PM

I don't think the T-trim is street legal. At least it isn't for the Mustang. Do you road race the car or just drag race it? What don't you like about the engine oil version? I have mine going through a cooler which I think works better than a self contained one.

T-trim is legal for the mustang.

Just less to go wrong and less plumbing to worry about. The car sees more road racing but I plan to visit the drag strip to see what it does...once I get a roll bar.

Got a quick little update from the tech today. The car was leaning out up top so we stepped it up with 60lb injectors and a double fuel pump setup. The car still needs tuning but it made over 570rwhp on the dyno late in the day. Not bad since it was 100*F outside and 70% humidity. Hopefully theyll do some early morning tuning when its a bit cooler. Cant wait to drive it already.

Nice. What was the torque and how much boost did it make?

I'll find out soon. That was just a quick text the tech sent me. I believe it was on 7psi tho.

enkeivette 08-29-2013 06:37 PM

Fuck, yeah. Why do you have an LS3 in your C5?

My LS6 ate a cam lobe that sent metal through the engine taking a main bearing with it. I got a good deal on a 6.2L block so I figured what they hell. They're very stout engines in stock form.

enkeivette 08-30-2013 12:20 AM

Nice, so you smog it as a newer Corvette? Or can they not tell the difference?

Shaolin Crane 08-30-2013 12:35 AM

They can't tell the difference.

I pick up the car tomorrow so I'll see the dyno sheet then but it looks like 575/505 on 7psi. The tuner is out for the long weekend so I couldnt ask him.

Motor wise, just a cam and headers. I did upgrade the valvetrain with PRC springs and Comp Cam rocker trunions. I upgraded some small things like going to a LS6 oil pump with a high pressure spring, LS2 timing chain setup with a heavy duty chain, and a hd aluminum radiator. I had a road racing water pump and underdrive pulley but those were replaced for the vortech install. Stock heads and block otherwise. The trans is built with a Yank SS 3600 and the rear diff is a 3.42 off a Z06. Got DRM Bilstein shocks and C5Z06 springs.

C5Natie 09-02-2013 07:05 AM

Tuner was showing me that the dyno numbers he told me were with the converter unlocked. He said he didnt want to possibly hurt the trans but that the car is actuall putting down 600rwhp and over 500rwtq. 1st and 2nd are unusable. Lol. He apologized that he flat spotted my rear tires on the dyno and was cool enough to give me a set of new Hoosier ET Street Radials 315/30r18. He said if he wouldnt have had those in the shop he wouldve gone to the tire shop and bought me new tires. So, hes a damn honest guy. I'll probably do some burnouts to minimize the flat spots and finish of the Michelins.

BADDASSC6 09-02-2013 08:37 AM

Nice. It's going to be a lot of fun. What shop is doing the work? A&A?

No I took it to RPM Motors in Santa Clarita. I picked it up Saturday morning.

enkeivette 09-02-2013 09:28 AM

Flat spotted your tires on the dyno? I call BS, how would that ever happen? He took your car for a spin, literally.

How is it? Do you love it?

If you brake the car too hard the rollers will flat spot them. They were very obviously created by the dyno roller. I spotted it first and knew it had to have happened on the dyno.

I drove it a bit in the morning when it was cooler and the car feels damn strong. Itll roast the tires a whole block and on the fwy it pulls hard. I did a 70-140 pull in 3rd and it was quick, no sweat for the car. They took it up to 6500rpm on the dyno but it was still making power and the shift points are at 6800-6850 I believe. Cant wait for some nice cool fall days.

BADDASSC6 09-02-2013 12:29 PM
