Test for Echo - Off Road Cruise?
I've had a Jeep Wrangler since I was 16, and I've still got it, thought it doesn't get used much these days. But man, do I have many . . . many fond memories of various off road aventures from my wayward youth. Maybe a Motorgen off road (relatively light and easy) would be a lot of fun.
I'm thinking November, Big Bear, and Ralley Car friendly roads. What say you? |
I'm almost finished doing a solid axle swap on my '95 Explorer but if I have it done by November I'm up for a run. However, I like tougher runs. How about running the Silverwood Lake trail?
|
My friend with a VERY tricked out Jeep and his dad (also with a very tricked out Jeep) have been talking about something in November. Perhaps we can combine forces

What size tires are on your Jeep? Does it have a lift? Does it have open axles or limited slips or lockers? |

Here's his FJ40 http://www.spinninfours.com/phil.html |
Here are a couple photos of my Explorer on the Silverwood trail.
Silverwood 1 Silverwood 2 I'm still having trouble inserting an image. What I did was copied the url for the photo, then clicked on the Insert Image icon and then pasted the url. When I do the image doesn't display. |

94cobra69ss396's Explorer Photos. (I uploaded them to your account.)

PS If those pics represent the average level on the Silverwood trail, that's no problem. I did things way nastier than that in a bone stock 91 Wrangler. Of course I didn't have normal brain function at that time, I was 16 - 18.
|
There are a couple of tough spots but overall an easy beginner trail. The hill coming up in the picture had four ways up it. I could only make it up two the other two were too tough for my truck at the time.

im guessing this isnt none gravel rally tyres evo friendly off roading?

Azuza Canyon is more of play area and mud pit than a 4 wheel trail but it's a great area for someone in a stock truck who's learning to offroad.
|
That Silverwood run looks like a winner. The 29th is Thanksgiving weekend, so I think it'd have to be at least a week earlier, or maybe following. What says you guys? Later (like December 6) might be better as I have a slight hankering for NASA track day with BAADASSC6 in November.

plus like you stated, my stock turd will not go off road big time.. i want to do some mods like lifting and bigger tires, but where i work i can just get into the garage now.. |
It also has a variety of terrain such as sand hills, dirt hills, rocks and mud which makes it fun for someone who wants to try their trucks on different terrains to see what they like.

Hey guys, I am the newbie with the FJ40. I think that the 2n17x Trail that runs behind Lake Siverwood is a great beginner trail and offers some difficult challenges for those who have a "Larger Set". Of course I was talking about tires. There is by-passes to most of the hard stuff. The down falls to Azusa Canyons are, cost just to get in, heavily patroled by Forest Service, can get really busy and damage is very likley in stock vehicles. Also depending on time of year water can get very deep. I used to live at the bottom of the hill and go up there all the time. Sometimes just sitting out on my porch watching all of the rolled, broken, sunk vehicles come down on tow trucks was just as fun. I am up for putting together a run with my brother if anyone is interested.

Sean, Throttle Crazy is my brother with the FJ40 I posted the picture of.

Can I cruise with you guys on these? We have two of them and love to take them out. We've done the Lake Silverwood Trail that 94cobra mentioned. Finally a cruise I can participate in.

Date wise I think we can help narrow it down.
November 1,2 - Street Legals November 8,9 - Open November 15,16 - Formula D (at least Saturday) some of us might be going November 22,23 - Open November 29,30 - Open, but the weekend after Thanksgiving I might suggest November 8 as a starting point. But you guys call it since you're going to handle the details. |
