Clutch kit on ebay is about 70. A new compressor is about 135. Its usually a better idea to change ghe compressor when the clutch goes. I changed about 3 this month. All ford compressors after 94 are the same from the trucks to cars.

If I replace the compressor I am going to have to bleed the system right?

Usually its easier to remove the compressor to replace the clutch. Its possible to do it in the car, but those are balancing weights on the end of the clutch plate and its easy to fuck the compressor up. For the minimal extra coin for an entire compressor its good insurance

So I bleed the system and replace the compressor then take a drive out to your place and get a charge?

Yep. Dont be afraid of the chinese compressors on ebay, the hcc brand ones are identical to the 4 seasons one for a third of the cost.

I can help you replace the compressor if you need it.

Great how is next weekend? I am booked this weekend. I am going to look into if we can just replace the clutch without pulling the AC. Not excited about spending the $$ on a charge and anything else.

If the a/c still works then just change the balancer plate. I have one around here somewhere

Leedom 09-21-2012 01:04 PM

I have not been running it but it was working the other day. I did notice a couple of days before I heard the rattle that the ac worked better at lower speeds then cruising on the freeway. I will run the ac later today and make sure it is still good.

Leedom 09-21-2012 06:21 PM

So I ran the AC on the way home and no cold air. I am assuming this could be because of the bad clutch or the clutch and AC are bad. Is there a way to test if the AC Compressor is shot without replacing the clutch and running the AC?
