If you had your heart set on Wrightwood then yes but if you just wanted to peruse the Angeles National Forest let me throw this out.

AARP asked me to do a little somethin'.

No, I still want to do Angeles Crest. I'm not interested in doing Palomar this month. Too far away, too much gas.

You might want to consider a slight change in your route. When you get to Angeles Forest Highway make a right turn and take it to Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) then then left up to Newcomb's Ranch. A few months back they chip sealed Upper Big Tujunga and it was dirty and rough.

Here is what it would look like.

Also, as of today it is still closed to Wrightwood:

" IS CLOSED FROM ISLIP SADDLE TO 5 MI WEST OF BIG PINES (LOS ANGELES CO)
- FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE "

There is a back way around this if you want to loop down Upper Big Tujunga back to Angeles Forest Highway, turn right, and then turn right again at Mt. Emma Rd..

Route would look like this.
You might have to do something like the 2nd option he has proposed.

Yeah, I'm leaning that direction actually. It's a long drive, but awesome.

There are a lot of places to stop, rest, and take some nice pictures. :)

Okay, one, Newcombs does not like large groups all at once, it cramps business unless EVERYONE eats or buys so there is that.

Two, trying to turn around a bunch of cars at the closure will be rather tricky, not that it can't be done, there is a camp ground there but it's still rather tricky.

Three, The trip down 138 is about as fun as watching rocks fuck.

Eighty miles, give or take.

There are other routes too. Really I guess it would depend on where you all want to end up at, they's good food errywhere.

I found that to be true last time we did ACH...

Well it turns out I'm not going to be able to make it this time. However I did just get back from driving the planned route to the closure. Great day, great drive. The drive up took about 40 mins. Ive got the whole thing on video if anyone is interested in seeing road conditions.

Did you just circle around and come back the way you came? I'm just weighing out options.

Yep, 40 mins up, 10 mins enjoying the sights, 40 mins down. What a great day.
