Caliber is diameter. .45 means .45" wide. Different bullets (the actual projectile) can have different lengths for a given caliber. Total cartridge length (casing + bullet) can have very slightly different lengths for a given application like .45 ACP (typical handgun), but not much since it relates to how the cartridge feeds.

Why do you ask?

enkeivette 06-12-2013 08:05 PM

I need to fix this pump that uses obsolete ceramic pistons. I had a 45 shell lying around and it fits perfectly. I was thinking if a 45 bullet was the same diameter (at its widest) as the shell, than I could use a bullet (without the shell) as a replacement piston.

But if 45s look like that 38, being a smaller diameter than the shell, it would be too loose.

Shaolin Crane 06-13-2013 11:11 AM

You could probably use a .50AE round as a replacement. Or a .50BEO .50BMG etc.

Bullet OD = Shell OD?
Longest 45 bullet (only, w/o shell)?

Case ID is smaller than bullet OD...case needs to be flared.

Over all round length is 1.250 but some have gotten 1.267 to function. Bullet length is determined by power fill in case.

enkeivette 06-13-2013 12:12 PM

Way too short. I was hoping for some 3 inch military shit. I think Ill go down to McFadden and look for some brass or aluminum rod and hope to get lucky.

Shaolin Crane 06-13-2013 12:43 PM

.454 Casual casing might work.

S&W 460 uses a .45 and is longer than 454 Casull

From the unexpected history of words. Also Guy prefers the French pronunciation of his name.

The German meaning was "thirst for blood and war"

Shaolin Crane 06-13-2013 03:40 PM

From Name Origins
" German Meaning:
The name Guy is a German baby name. In German the meaning of the name Guy is: warrior. "

Was required to do a report on the meanings of our names when we were in grade school. My christian school was less than pleased with my findings and tried to "alter" my report. Hilarious.

Also, let the italian jokes start because Guy=Guidano/Guido and has nearly the same meaning in italian lineage. Which is why my dad chose the name Guy, to honor my grandfather (Guidano/Gpa Guy) And the German Heritage too. Boom, doesn't seem like such a lazy choice now does it?

Sorry to disappoint, but Guy is Norman French for the ancient Germanic Wido which goes back into Pagan Germanic times and is related to the element "Wood"

http://www.behindthename.com/name/guy

Guido is Italian for Guy though. So naming you Guy after grandpa Guido is sensible enough. But it appears to have nothing to do with the idea of "warrior".

Krieger is German for warrior/soldier.

Like Robby Krieger, guitarist from The Doors.

Guy

The German form of Guy is Veit.

Shaolin Crane 06-14-2013 12:37 AM

Maybe the actual translation of the word in German, but it's verifiable by several different lineage markers. Not just one site, hundreds, I even remember the book they had us use. There was some German knight who went haywire and was beheading people n the battlefield as he saw fit. Not a good name to name your child from what I remember. Names will have different meaning over the word. I can supply the multiple links when I get home.

Vettezuki 06-14-2013 12:55 AM

I've also known a few Americans named Guy. There are some famous French Canadian athletes named Guy. A shit ton of French dudes named Guy. I have a bunch of German colleagues. I've never heard the name used among modern Germans.

The only actual formal etymolgy TRACING the name I can find is French Norman from Old German (Wido).

I don't particularly care. Simply I NEVER thought of Guy as a German name and can't find much (any) actual evidence to support it. But I haven't put a lot of time into it. I stand to be corrected.

Anyway, I love the French. A lot of great things about their culture and a very rich history. In no way I'm sideways making fun of you for having what I think of as a French name.

Shaolin Crane 06-14-2013 01:36 AM

I'm just saying I have done the research before, so did my dad. Even a quick Google search confirms what I've always believed. More than enough effort has been placed for it.

Vettezuki 06-14-2013 01:56 AM

Your Google must work different than mine. I did, however, find a list of 524 male names connoting warrior. Guy wasn't it in it. :smack:

http://www.20000-names.com/warrior_n...es_male_02.htm

I'm just fucking with you now. I like the name. And for that matter I like wood. And I like French culture. You're either a warrior type or your not. A rose is a rose by any other name home slice.

Shaolin Crane 06-14-2013 04:04 AM

I hate the french, and french culture. Must be the gGerman in me.

I left at 1pm hoping to avoid traffic. Apparently UCLAs graduation was yesterday. Plus, a semi had to get towed in the middle of the 5 in downtown LA. Tacking 3 hours of traffic onto a 6 hour drive is just not fair.

The single reason I am so worried about my potential future. I've all but convinced my CEO to open another office, and he has a raging hard on for LA... I already hate traffic as it is... These stories aren't normal, but hours of traffic to cross the city is. Ugh.

I work in hollywood and yes traffic is a son of a bitch. I'm luck I get to carpool with a guy who lives about 10 mins from my house and we work later (start work at 10) so we miss most of the traffic. But still a normal day is 1:15 mins each way. (70ish miles)

I work with a few people that live less then 20 miles away from the office and it takes them over 45 mins to get in.

That's not bad considering I commute on the I5 and my total distance traveled is 16 miles and it takes me an average of 45 minutes. Not bad. 1:15 would eventually wear on me again as it has before.

Thanks for the info!

Shaolin Crane 06-17-2013 12:29 AM

I keep hearing people complain how they're tired of being fat, skinny, lonely weak. Blah blah blah but they do nothing to change it. Rather tiresome.

Ive been sick this past week, and studying for an interview. Only got to the gym once. Im sure Ive lost my 275 ten rep bench capability. Fuck. Its been my goal since highschool.
