Need time slips for a claim like that!

enkeivette 04-21-2013 08:48 PM

And I thought your car was setup for autocross? Not drag...

Shaolin Crane 04-21-2013 10:45 PM

All around. It's set up for nothing in particular. The gray car is set up for straight road course.

enkeivette 04-21-2013 10:56 PM

So... how fast do you think my car would be with slicks? Assuming the diff can take it

Shaolin Crane 04-22-2013 12:30 AM

Weight? Hp? Gearing?

enkeivette 04-22-2013 01:48 AM

Never ask a lady what she weighs. I dunno, prob brought it down to 3100 then back up to 3200. Hp, 720? Gears, 3.73. T56

Bet you're off on weight and HP by a not insubstantial margin. :bandit:

94cobra69ss396 04-22-2013 08:56 AM

Chevelle weighs 3500lbs with me in it, put down 530rwhp on the 150 shot and ran a best of 10.01 at 133 on the 250 shot.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 10:26 AM

You ran a 10.01?! Keep going! Thats a 9 second car

94cobra69ss396 04-22-2013 10:38 AM

That's the plan. I have a couple things that I'm changing on it when the trans goes back in that I'm hoping will get me in the 9's.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 10:53 AM

Off on the weight, you realize how much Ive taken off?

Ive taken off:
Huge steel vacuum tank/ frame member
Tank mounting hardware and brackets
Steel bumper was cut in half, bumper behind license plate removed
Front turn signals and metal brackets removed
Front urethane bumper exchanged with lighter fiberglass bumper
Rear urethane bumper exchanged with fiberglass
Both bumpers bonded in and metal mounting flanges removed, front and rear
AC compressor & surprisingly heavy mounting brackets removed
AC condenser & lines and related components removed
Aluminum radiator replaced steel unit
Mechanical fan, clutch, and shroud removed
Aluminum water pump replaced iron unit
Power steering pump and mounting hardware removed
Power steering Control ram and related hoses and lines removed
Smog pump and mounting hardware removed
Steel AIR injection lines removed
EGR removed
Aluminum fuel pump
Alarm system and horn removed
Rear speakers removed
Ebrake replaced with lighter Mustang ebrake
Steel console support removed
Console replaced with custom fiberglass
Seats replaced with lighter seats
Seat tracks removed and seats bolted to the floor
Headliners removed and mounting flanges shaved off
Front suspension lighter... but rear spring heavier, so thats a wash
AND OH YEAH...
Aluminum T56 replaced the automatic trans
Aluminum Pro 5.0 shifter (prob not lighter, but damn I love that thing) :)
Centerforce flywheel replaced the TC
Iron heads replaced with aluminum heads
Iron intake replaced with aluminum intake
Aluminum pistons :p (Prob not even enough to compensate for the crank)
Iron manifolds replaced with steel long tubes
Heavy ass 70s catalytic converter is obviously history
Stock mufflers replaced with bullets
Stock dual y pipe exhaust tubing was heavier, but with the dual 3" its probably a wash
Lighter alloy wheels replaced the stock steel wheels
Lower profile tires (rubber is heavy...)
Full size spare, and underbody spare tire carrier and lock removed
AND COMING SOON TO A STREET RACE NEAR YOU...
Lighter Z51 calipers and rotors in my garage to replace the heavy ass iron 4 piston units

94cobra69ss396 04-22-2013 11:29 AM

Why don't you just go and weigh it? The Cobra weighs 3442 with a fuel tank of gas but without me in it. I said the Chevelle weighs 3500 but it actually weighs 3520 with me in it and about 5 gallons of fuel. If I remember correctly, the Explorer weighed 4700 but I can't remember.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 12:15 PM

How? Im not driving my vette to the junkyard. Thats asking for paint/ body damage

94cobra69ss396 04-22-2013 12:19 PM

There are places you can go to weigh the car. When I worked in Anaheim years ago there was a place right down the street on Ball road. Check around.

Vettezuki 04-22-2013 12:23 PM

Get it weighed at Schorr Metals, about 5 minutes from where you live. There's a gas station right there. Tank up first. Cost is like 10 bucks and scale is +- 10lbs. I'm 3,100 full wet. Measured, not guessed. I have a lot more aluminum and composites than you do.

837 S Kraemer Blvd, Placentia, CA

You're also off on HP, but I only want to break one of your balls at a time.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 12:42 PM

Schorr metals will do it?

And I dont think you believe Im off on hp, in my hp guessing thread you guessed high. I think youre just taunting me.

Simpler solution, organize a free dyno day. If Bird could do it with a bunch of 200 hp C3s, you can do it with thrice the potential customers who all have thrice the horsepower.

Gooo Ben! Gooo Ben! Gooo Ben! Gooo Ben!!!!

enkeivette 04-22-2013 12:45 PM

PS, you also have a lot more smog equip, bumper hardware, and AC than I do :p

enkeivette 04-22-2013 12:49 PM

Is Adam really suggesting I spend countless hours organizing a massive car event so he doesnt have to spend $60? Yes, yes he is... Hahah

I guessed highish relative to others, I didn't guess anywhere near 720! I'd have to check but i think I put in for something like 580WHP. That's plausible.

Bird has old timey connections that I don't. I could put together a cheap day, but not a free one.

The AC compressor is heavy, the rest is not a big deal. I do have cast manifolds still as well. But my diff is aluminum, my spring is like a few pounds, my engine block and heads are aluminum, composite intake, no blower, intercooler, etc.

Vettezuki 04-22-2013 03:05 PM

I guess you are > 3,300 lbs full wet and < 620 WHP.

Booooom!

That's where I got my Vette weighed.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 03:47 PM

Formal Invitation:
To suck a dick!! Haha

Ok fine maybe shes a bit heavier than yours, your girl does get more exercise!

Im just kidding about the dyno day. Of course I can afford it, but until I land a FT job Im staying on my fiscal diet. Btw that employment law guy was just trying to scam free work out of me, tempting me with the prospect of FT employment... he succeeded.

Found out every single lawyer/ clerk/ intern he employed at his firm graduated from Chapman. And the girl who got the job over me had less experience, but went to Chapman. I only found out accidentally by reading a trail of an email from his secretary, who CC'd the new girl, and by doing some research. Funny he was trying to get ME to do the appeal for one of his biggest cases (challenging work) and not this new girl. Which tells me he had more respect for the work I had done, but not enough to sacrifice his alumni cult.

Thats more than I was guessing, 720 engine hp equals 600 whp. You thought I was predicting 720 whp?? Come on man Im not a ricer, ha

My dyno guess thread I guessed 500 whp, because when it comes to hp figures people are usually disappointed.

Not me, I've always been right where I thought. When I first put the 454 in the Chevelle and finished tuning it I wanted to make sure that the AFR was good. So I took it with me when I had the Cobra tuned back in 2004. We did the Cobra first and then the Chevelle. Steve asked me what I thought it would make and I said right around what the Cobra did on the race fuel tune which was 450rwhp and he said that it would probably only make around 350rwhp. After he made the pull he had a big smile on his face. It made 461rwhp and 460rwtq and the AFR hovered around 12.7-12.8. It made me feel proud of my build.

Yes, I thought you were saying now (intercooler, proper tune, more boost) that you were at 720WHP. I'd put you close to 600hp. I think I had you around 580 or something before. I was being generous but I thought it was plausible all things considered. But yeah, I thought you were saying 720 now, and I was saying like, uh, no.

People make odd economic decisions all the time. Let the market deal with him. You'll end up with a big boy firm, I'm 100% sure of it. You're as smart as any of the retainers I've brushed with here and the FTC guys are something crazy like $10,000/day or more, plus some other pile of BS.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 05:32 PM

Thanks man

Well, you know what you're doing, which tends to help with making estimates. But I've to agree with Adam generally, people tend to get a little overly generous about what they think their tweaks are going to add. When it comes to dynos, or anything car related, I'm more of the "show me" don't "tell me" camp. Most of the guys here have their head screwed on straight, but serious fantasizing is pretty common around the interwebs.

enkeivette 04-22-2013 07:32 PM

And back to my ques, my car how fast? Suppose its on the conservative ends, 3300lbs and 550 wheel horsepower. With 19" drag radials and Ron driving

Ha ha ha hoiiiiiii!!!!

94cobra69ss396 04-22-2013 08:43 PM

That's because they see all these high horsepower cars on the internet and think their should make close to those because they feel fast to them. The first time I took the Chevelle to the drag strip back in 1994 I thought it was going to run 12's. It ran a best of 14.02 at 99 on slicks that I borrowed from a friend. The fastest it went with that same engine setup was a 13.20 at 102. That was from changing shocks, Carb tuning, ignition, gears, etc. Then I changed the cam and went 12.90. Then I ported the heads and went 12.70's. Then I built the 454 and started in the 11.50's and with tuning and a clean up of the heads went a best of 10.99 at 122 on just engine. I'm hoping for 10.80-10.70 with the changes I have planned but we'll see.

Adam, traction is the key to what ET your car will run. From what I remember you saying your suspension is stiff. That's not good for weight transfer. My guess is you'll run around an 11.70-11.20 range at around 128-130.

Shaolin Crane 04-22-2013 08:50 PM

According to the calculators 10.30's but 11 flat is more my guess.

94cobra69ss396 04-22-2013 08:58 PM

Calculaters are optimistic. Remember, he has a T56. The Chevelle put 530rwhp on the 150 shot weighs 3500 and ran in the 10.40 range at around 128. That's with a better tuned suspension and an auto.

I bet he can't pull better than a 1.80 60ft on a 19 drag radials.

Well, for reference, my suspension is of a similar basic type and stiffness. I weigh 3,100lbs, and put down 390whp measured. My best at Fontana on DRs (255 x 17) was 12.6@112.5 w/2.0 60'.

Why slower than your car? I thought your car had all around suspension and less hp?

Not that I disagree. I figured my car was 11s capable... but I would say that about your fox too.

Isnt Rons Cobra in the 11s?

enkeivette 04-22-2013 09:33 PM

Thats a good slip to have Ben, fastest 82 I know of. Anyone faster on CF?

enkeivette 04-22-2013 09:38 PM

Also, as far as drag suspension, dont you want stiff in the back, soft up front? To reduce squat but help weight transfer (RWD).

fiveohwblow 04-22-2013 09:56 PM

Bench racing is for gheys

enkeivette 04-22-2013 10:00 PM
