Anywho, sorry to hear about your loss Guy. Hope you don't take my light humor too seriously. It sucks to lose someone you really care about. I'm sure you'll find someone else to fill the void eventually. |
I can see Mt. Fuji from the window across the room I'm situated in. It's covered in snow and purdy.

At least I passed my interview for LASD. Just waiting for the crypt keeper to dust off my file so I can get a call back.

Saw the newest Batman on the plane back from Japan. I thought it was kind of weak overall, but the Bane character was sort of interesting, especially in that they attempted to give him some human complexity, at least at the end. Overall, I think the league of shadows theme could have been developed in a much more deep way, but I guess for pop movies, they probably got it about right. Who needs dialogue when you can go Boom!*()$# KaPow()*$# Bang!$()*1
|
Wha?! The movie was perfect, the league of shadows thing didn't need to be more in depth since they were all removed during the first movie. Bane and Ms. Tate were the only ones left

Movies generally, but not always, kind of just ice skate on ideas, the rest is eye candy. Nothing wrong with that, just is. Overall, I'd give the movie a C for my tastes. Now you can sort of ice skate on ideas and still make a surprisingly good movie. I'd say "Last Samurai" ranks very high on this scale. |
A great movie that is an adaptation of Shakespeare, that is simply stunning in its construction is Akira Kurosawa's "Ran". If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor, but it is crazy dark and heavy.

Me too. Quite a lot actually. One of the few movies I saw with my Japanese wife and she was in tears at the end. It does manage to capture a bit of the Japanese spirit in its idealized form if nothing else.
http://motorgen.com/forum/showthread...hlight=samurai Watch some of the great Japanese movies. And "Ran" is way up there. |

Pics of Carlos nearly drowning in the arctic and/or being eaten by polar bears. Negative (sadly) |
Some pics from my recent trip to the home islands.
The ice ball in this Shochu is hand carved each day. It has no bubbles of any kind. The picture doesn't capture it, but it creates a kind of subtle and beautiful light effect. Simply the best Soba I've ever had, by a mile. Soba Shochu. A kind of Soba miso paste. Awesome! A little video from the Shinkansen. Next time I'll get some video as they go through the station which is much cooler. Click through and go to YT for full screen if you want. |
Some pics from my brother's shop.
Slowly building out. My brother is a Festool man. These run about double to triple the premium of other good tools. And worth every penny. Seriously, these Germans thought of EVERYTHING. Crazy accurate, durable, flexible, light, etc. ] |

First time back at gym in a couple months. It never ceases to amaze me how fast muscle looses strength or how fast it puts it back on.
