The bore is larger than a 454 BBC (actually the same on both the 460 and 429) so you can put bigger valves in the BBF than the BBC. :pot_stir:

You can Ford vs Chevy trash talk all you want. But look at a SBC vs a SBF without looking at the dist hole and I can't tell the difference.

Camaros have been consistently faster than Mustangs, but a mild cam will fix that. Car manufacturers really just get you started, how fast you are is up to you... Look at my 185hp Corvette.

I am not trash talking:sm_laughing:. I've build just about any comb of BBC and BBF in the 70's - 80's that was possible then. Both have good points and bad points.

Yea, your "185 hp" Chevy is a very good point.:drink:

Now that after market heads have leveled the playing field, BBC or BBF both can make unGodly power.:judge:

Would that be the same one with the broken piston on my bench?:sm_laughing:

Haha, the motor's been rebuilt already. I have 7 smoke colored pistons and a new shiny one. Also a new set of stainless rings. Decided to stay away from moly in case I ping again.

To all who posted, just wanted to let you know that I am now the proud owner on a BBF 429 motor. Now the fun begins.

Maybe in another year or 2 we will have it in the car, unless he wins the lottery.

Going off memory, the 429 didn't need much did it?

Intake
Carb
Dizzy
Plugs
Wires
Headers

Don't forget the Cerittos (I think) swap meet. You might be able to pick all this up in the <=500$ range.

Dizzy?? You can't beat an MSD streetfire for the $$. No way, no how. $150.00, and I'll curve it for ya.

AWESOME :D

I was telling Adam he's going to need a blower on his car quick in order to keep up :judge:

Leedom 08-02-2009 10:28 PM

Needs all the front accessories as well. My dad was looking and figured it would cost another $2k or so to complete which he does not have right now. I told him he needs to sell his old trans and we need to pull the motor and sell it and he could do it quicker! :drink:

There is no way I will be able to afford a blower anytime soon so he will spank me for a while when this gets dropped in. :surrender:

Does he want to make the the accessory drive pretty or just work? If he just wants to make it work, and you have cores laying around, you probably can get everything you need from Autozone (Duralst) for a few hundred bucks. In other words, less than 1G$ altogether if you try hard.

MSD? If you say so.

Leedom 08-03-2009 02:02 PM

I am not sure what he wants to do as far as blingy vs functional. We are have so much sh1t sitting in the garage waiting to be done I do not think the engine at this point is the push, short of getting the one we have running.

The swap can be done in 6 hours by one guy. I can attest to that.:smack:

The trouble is the little shit.:p

You got the frames mounts yet?

Leedom 08-03-2009 09:21 PM

We got the engine and that is it. Nothing else yet.

Sean follow the link in the FP. Pics on the sale page.

The "Streetfire" is virtually an identical copy of the original GM HEI dizzy. Very reliable, and hard to beat.;)(All parts interchange).

Sean is correct 2 brl heads with a 4 Edelbrock brl carb and MSD Ignition. The engine was rebuilt according the records a few years back and less than 10K ago. Yes is it a Cleveland as well.
