You got the equivalent of a Jerico for $800?!?! That's awesome. I paid way more for a rebuilt T56.

94cobra69ss396 07-01-2011 06:33 PM

No kidding. Converting from my T5 to a T56 cost me over $2500.

Shaolin Crane 07-01-2011 08:57 PM

Yeah I did, its not a perfect transmission since it needs some work, apparently through some sort of mishap he broke the input shaft at the 3rd gear snap ring, however that is possible i dont know. But he ordered a new mainshaft which is supposed to be a 26sp billet treated shaft, the rest of the gears looks untouched and I have a buddy who is friends with the owner of g-force who said he'll reassemble the tranny for $100. Here are some pictures of the carnage, not really carnage though

You can see all the other gears are untouched as it looks like a very clean break

Shaolin Crane 07-28-2011 12:45 PM

So ive been told tomorrow morning is the day....

Unfortunately i'd give it a truly realistic year before the car runs with this engine :( losing my tranny really fucked me...
So i'll focus on getting the other car done since i need a comfortable backup car, and i have everything to assemble that one.

nice valve covers!

Shaolin Crane 07-30-2011 09:03 PM

Thanky, they need to be recoated to match my intake finish, and i'll do a similar machine polish on the raised portions but here is what i got today...

Shaolin Crane 07-30-2011 09:06 PM

I have additional pics that i'll upload from my laptop when able, but for now this will do

Sweeet. Looks like it's coming together nicely. I'm trying to save up cash to purchase another 5.0 (Got a 3$ raise at work! XD). Can't live without one. Hands down the most fun vehicle i have owned.

I'm planning on parking my SVO and daily driving the 5.0 while i bring the SVO up to snuff. Purchase a decent interior, new turbo, fmic, painless wiring harness, and megasquirt. Then once it's done the SVO will become my daily while i learn how to build an engine with my Uncle who's a nuclear engineer in the Navy! We'll see how that works out.

Shaolin Crane 07-30-2011 10:37 PM

5.0 engines are painfully simple to do, i didnt do it since assembly was pretty close to free ($65 since he was already in and out of the block during machining) you could completely rebuild a 302 in an afternoon.

Here is my advice however, if you dont have a truck get one, 87-95 f150s are cheap and already have a 5.0 engine in them, you'll gain good working experience on the engine, have a rock steady work truck, be able to do go fast parts just as easily, and when all is said an done if you ever sell the truck yank the motor out and drop a stocker in and toss that one in a fox. Sometimes i miss my old 89 :(

89StangGuy 07-30-2011 10:48 PM

Well as for now, i got a few different trucks for use at my disposal. Chevy dually diesel, a 76 datsun pickup, and a 58 chevy van. So if i ever need a truck to pickup parts i got one!

I'm just trying to do this as organized and as neat as i can. So when it comes down to it, it won't take very long. I need a 5.0 asap.

Shaolin Crane 07-31-2011 02:08 AM

Look up north, there are many foxes that are far more taken care of for less money, sure, you'll need to drive but it will be worth it

Shaolin Crane 07-31-2011 03:41 AM

Ok so here are the other pictures I eluded to earlier, Final cam specs checked in at 111* intake 118* exhaust 232/242 .600/.583.

My builder said the prestretched chain couldnt allow for the 110* center on the cam card, but said it would fair better for the RPM this engine will turn (figure a 7000rpm shift point)
And he couldnt get an accurate compression reading because it was nearly impossible to turn over by hand without being bolted down to something, but figures it to be around 11.1:1-11.25:1, so with some safe tuning for the street i can probably get away with 91, but when i push it i'll need torco for sure, hoping on a bottle of torco per tank it makes 425rwhp. Should be a potent runner.

Here are the pics, unfortunately i forgot to take pics of the lower intake porting that came out so great, oh well

I saw it in person :drool2:

Thanks again for fixing my AC, works great.

Yup, but you left before things got good ;)

No problem about the A/C, shouldnt have to drive around sweating in a termi. Chris didnt fair so well though, i got the a/c working awesome but he has a separate problem I didnt know about, when he drives the A/C system loses vacuum and shifts the air to the defrost vent. Only happens above 3k or heavy load but none the less a problem. Thing blew cold when it was on the front vents though.

I'm still quite impresses yours blew at 39* at idle, i'd venture a guess it probably dropped down to around 26-28* when driving. Probably feels good haha.

Anywho, today i scored an anderson power pipe for $100 with a cone filter and adapter. I have until the end of the month to finish as much as possible on this car before things drastically halt for a while. Give it the wrinkle black finish like everything else and the cosmetics should be squared and I can get to driving the damn thing. However headers are going to be a huge hurdle to accomplish.

Why would that be?

That is when I have to start paying off the transmission, and since I want it payed off as quick as possible most of my play funds will go towards it.

SeanPlunk 08-01-2011 09:46 AM

I know how you feel. I'm about 80% sure I'm selling the Cobra.

I have a payment and insurance for a car I just don't drive that much. With the little guy, I just don't see that changing anytime soon. It also has a ton of equity we can use when we buy a house in a couple years.

I have my eyes on a used C6 Z06 in 2-4yrs. By then they should be in the low 30 range.

It's a very rational choice.

I'd sell the Vette and use towards business debt now if it weren't the fact that a) every time I drive it I have a ball b) it's unique and took a LOONNNG time to put together c) I'd be doing very very good to get $15k for something I have low $30k into.

well working a/c will help you sell it ;)

Shaolin Crane 08-07-2011 10:58 PM

Not whole lot of progress in this thread, but i got my injectors and fuel rails, just need a handful of expensive items and im good.

Shaolin Crane 08-15-2011 01:10 PM

Well registration is due tomorrow and between smog, registration fee and insurance to have a car down for a few months ive decided to put it on non op for the time being. Transmission shipped last friday and should be here friday. Still need a lmaf, 80mm throttle body, fuel tank, fuel pump, seats, roll bar, sct chip, balancer, water pump, radiator, clutch, driveshaft etc. Lots of items so away the car goes, i sold the transmission to my buddy to pickup those heads for the other car so the whole motor and tranny is coming out and i'll start refreshing the other engine. While this car sits, some more :(

Shaolin Crane 08-19-2011 11:00 PM

Trans showed today

Shaolin Crane 07-15-2013 12:26 AM

Sad that it's been 2 Years ssince Dedicated Service got any goodies, that changes now. These are on their way and so is a new designed BBK...

enkeivette 07-15-2013 10:48 AM

You can always pay the registration, and just not send in a smog cert. It wont be late and they will put a hold on it till you send in the smog cert.

enkeivette 07-15-2013 10:48 AM

Oops, that was an old post. Nice headers!

So i've been buying shit

As well as other shit I have not received yet or taken pictures of yet

Vettezuki 07-26-2013 12:06 AM

Those are sorta the kind of headers I'd like Jammer to fab up or me on the Vette. Real curious to see how much HP I have just sitting on the table.

Shaolin Crane 07-26-2013 12:11 AM

These are a 4-1, i'd much rather have a set of tri-y headers but these were only 200 shipped. And these are uber ugly, black header wrap is in their future.

Vettezuki 07-26-2013 12:16 AM

Yeah, I want Tri-y hybrids, ceramic coated, custom fit, etc.

Buy a header kit and some LS flanges from Jegs. Weld it up and grind until pretty.

I'm in no hurry. I'll pay someone who's an artist at it and have it done right and beautifully.

If only you knew an artist who knows how to weld. And if only you had wrestled with him as a kid... maybe he would even give you a discount. If only :)

Jammer is the resident bad ass welder/fabricator for headers.

It's true, he is the layer of pipe. Chop cut rebuild approved.
