My uncle has done 4 sets of head gaskets on a stock truck

Stock truck? If so that's just a shit design.

Shaolin Crane 09-12-2012 10:45 PM

It is, a well known shit design. Studs generally fix it but for whatever reason they stepped down from a 14mm head bolt to a 7mm. Hardly enough girth for holding on the head of a diesel.

The head bolts are smaller than the 7.3. But the issue is that the are designed to stretch when torqued down. It helps hold the gasket over the life of the motor (it was supposed to), but with more boost and cylinder pressure they will stretch more resulting in blown head gaskets.

It's a non issue for trucks that are not modified. That however is no fun.:bang:

Nope its an issue either way. I know tons of trucks that were stock and had head gasket issues. 7.3 is TTY too.
