I am going to need to get new tires for my Mach soon and was looking into different brands. I am pretty much set on Nitto NT555's up front at either 265/35R18 or 275/35R18 depending on what can fit on my lowered stang. out back I need 295/35R18. Nitto does not make them according to their site in the 555 so I am left to look into other brands. I have BFG KDW2s out back now an do not like them (sorry Art), they are tooo noisy. I am looking for a good balance of performance and affordability so don't say Michelin PS2s. I would like a tire that has at least a 300 treadwear rating as well. Any recommendation you all might have would be appreciated.

Anyone know anything about these..Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?sidewall=Blackwall&tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Firehawk+Wide+Oval&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=935WR8FHW&fromCompare1=yes&place=0)?

Are you willing to run spacers? What's the widest tire you can fit on your rim? Will it rub your fender well if you push out very far? On the other hand I run NT450s all around and they're ok for a performance oriented street tire.

I really do not want to run spacers and if I do I am pretty sure I would rub the fender lip. I am not really looking for a tire with a 200 Treadware rating and trying to stay away from a $300 to $350 tire. I would like the same size I have now.

Adam,
I have been looking on tire rack and a number of those tires on the search you have have low treadware ratings (this is my DD) and some cost way too much.

So your constraints are

size 295/35R18
tread 300+~
cost <$300~
performance

You may be looking for a tire that doesn't exist. Ebay those Pilot Sports, see if you can score a pair cheap.

Those Goodyears seem like a possibility, might be little high on price, good looking out though Ben.

Anyone have experience with General Exclaim UHP (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Exclaim+UHP)?

I also worry that they are cheap for a reason. :bang:

If you can get Nitto 555's in that size, I'd go for those :D

Nitto only goes up to 285 unless something has just been added to their 555 line-up that has not been added to their site.

You guys and your new fangled computered cars. I go get BFG t/a's in 245 front and 275 rear for 15 inch. Been doing that for 23 years. Done- no hassles and they wear forever.

You guys are silly.

You know, honestly the extra 10mm in section width ain't exactly going to make a huge difference . . . especially in the Mach. :nutkick: Also keep in mind, that's less rolling resistance and less rotational mass and less unsprung weight. These are good things for performance. If the 285s stick good for your car, they would actually be better than the 295s.
