How fast do you have to be to need something better than stock belts? And what, 4 or 5 point? Also, at what ET do you need a cage/ bar?

Faster than 14 for a helmet.

Faster than 11.5 requires a cage like we have in the Snake. (There are some exceptions, for example current OEM cars that run faster than 11.5 from the factory, like a C6Z at a good track with a good driver.)

Faster than 10 requires a full cage.

I *think* you can use stock seat belts all the way to 10.

Roll Bars
Roll Bars are required on convertibles running quicker than 11.00 - 13.99. Roll Bars are required on all cars running quicker than 11.00 - 11.99.

Roll Cages
Roll Cages are required on convertibles running 10.99 or faster than 135mph. Roll Cages are required on all cars running 10.99 or faster than 135mph. - One exception: full bodied cars running between 10.00 and 10.99, with unaltered firewalls, floor and body (from firewall rearward - wheel tubes permitted) can compete with just a roll bar. Faster than a 9.99 you need a chassis sticker and have the car reinserted every 3 years.

Helmets
Drivers of all 13.99 or quicker cars, and co-drivers in 14.00 to 14.99 second cars, must wear a helmet meeting Snell 95 or Newer, or SFI 31.1,31.2 specs.

Seat Belts
All cars running 14.00 sec and slower must be equipped with an accepted quick release type driver seat belt. All cars in competition requiring a roll bar or roll cage, or as outlined by Class Requirements, require a Driver Restraint System as outlined below.

Driver Restraint Systems
A quick-release, 3-inch shoulder harness meeting SFI Spec 16.1, including crotch strap, is mandatory in all cars in competition required by the rules to have a roll bar or a roll cage. Driver restraint system must be clearly labeled as meeting SFI Spec 16.1 and be dated by manufacturer. System must be updated at two-year intervals from date of manufacture. All seat belt and shoulder harness installations must be mutually compatible, originally designed to be used with each other, and produced by the same manufacturer. Cars using OEM or OEM type seat may route crotch strap in front of seat instead of through seat. Only those units that release all five attachment points in one motion are permitted. When arm restraints are worn with a restraint system that utilizes a "latch lever", a protective cover must be installed to prevent arm restraint from accidentally releasing the latch lever. Protective cover not needed if system uses "duckbill" latch hardware. All harness sections must be mounted to the frame, crossmember, or reinforced mounting, and installed to limit driver's body travel both upward and forward. Seat belts may not be wrapped around lower frame rails. Under no circumstances are bolts inserted through belt webbing permitted for mounting. Check manufacturers instructions.

He's not in competition. At what point do you need something other than stock seat belts for a street legal day? Do you need them if faster than 11.5 for example? I don't think so, but I'm not sure.

Basically Adam, I think you're going to run into roll bar problems (<11.5) sooner than a seat belt problem.

He wont run into roll bar or seat belt problems until he fixes his drivetrain and driving problems!:rolling::rolling::pot_stir:

Driving problems? I've never almost ate shit on a mountain road, and I run through them with more horsepower and less tire. :finger: Bring it bitch.

My reason for asking is that my pass seat belt is going out, want to know if it makes sense for me to replace with 4... 5 points I guess. CobraSS, how is there a less than range? You mean... 10.99 and faster requires a 5 point?

Yeah we'll when was the last time you took that thing down the track? It make sense that you never had any issues when you're always riding BITCH:eek:. I am in Florida from the 27th to the 2nd other than that I'm open to your schedule.

I refer you all to my sig. :p Btw, I never intended for my car to make this much hp. I built what I thought was a 450-500hp stroker, which would have been more usable. When it dynoed less than 400hp and I was informed that I had looow compression for my cam, I decided to compensate with a blower. Turns out I overcompensated. This motor was a love child.

(I relied on the machine shop's calculation. They told me I'd be over 10.8:1 with the SRP pistons and my 74cc AFRs.)

Even before I bolted the blower on I was told I'd only be in 8lbs territory because a stock motor should make about 10 with my pulley, never counted on a ridiculous 13.

They care about the driver's belt obviously. Be advised, if you switch to aftermarket belts, they are date stamped and you have to keep them in range. That is you have to replace them periodically . . . regardless of how much they are or are not used. If they are OEM belts, and you're ok with OEM belts (and I'm 99% sure you will be fine at the ET/MPH you'll be running with stock belts) you can run them forever. Neat huh.

That's possibly the strangest sequence of reasoning for how one got to "too much" power I've ever read.

I don't reason I just do. If you think too much you'll never get out of 7-11, just choose an option and go for it.

Fontana uses the NHRA rules for the Street Legal drags so as long as he runs slower than 11.50 he only needs a factory seat belt. He can replace it with a 3 inch lap belt as well but if he runs faster than 11.50 he has to have a 5 point harness. The rules do require the crotch strap.

It doesn't matter what you use for the passenger side because any car that runs faster than I believe 16.00 can't have a passenger anyways. Also, as Ben stated aftermarket harnesses have to be replaced every two years.

That sucks, I told the gf should could ride shotgun.

If it's 5 point minimum, I won't do it. I think 5 points look stupid, 4 point look kind of cool, but the crotch strap kills it for me. I think I'll stick with stock style belts then, and if I get kicked out for running better than 11.5... oh well, cool story to tell.

You can have the GF go down the strip with you, you just have to go slow, I think 14 or slower. Ron? But no, you can't go balls to the wall with a passenger. Also, if you're hovering in the mid 11s, unless someone has just got a hard-on for rule enforcement that day, they aren't going to give you too hard of a time for belts and roll bar. You honestly won't run that at CSW on street tires. I've seen 800HP AWD Porsches struggle in the mid 11s there. If you use my tires you *might*.

If your car is quicker than 14 you cant have a passenger. I wanted to run with Frankie in the car and planned to run slow and let off. When you sign the wiaver for a passenger they check the time on your tech card. I picked a guy in line at tech that was running 14 and he let me use his car #. Frankie got her wrist band to ride. and at the staging lane they don't know. I make my passenger runs the first one of the day. Once they know it is quicker they may bust you. I ran a 13.89 with my daughter and had 3 track workers screaming at me at the time booth. Was not allowed to run again that day.:bang:
