View Full Version : Coil Overs... on a Neon?!

enkeivette

Yup. Found a set lying around, and I think I can make them work on my Neon. I'd just have to drill out two of the perches for the struts to fit through them. Does anyone have a big drill press? :D

Why?! Because I can. And if I lower the car I'll get better gas mileage.

Is Adam trying to make the Neon fast? ...No, don't worry. I'll do this after the paint job on the Vette is finished.

Your guess is as good as mine. Some 90s ricer car most likely.

You should check the spring rate before you put them on. They might be too stiff or too soft.

Don't think I won't do it bitch.

I was actually thinking the other day about how I could trick the system to lean out. If I drop the fuel pressure, the computer would eventually compensate for it. So I was thinking, If I found out some info about the resistance of the 02 sensor, I could replace it with (or switch over to while driving once warm) a resistor of a slightly higher or lower value. And once I have my LM1 I'll know what's going on.

Neons are notorious for being rich. They're in the 12:1 range at WOT I've heard. I want to lean this bitch out, as much as I can without getting it too hot. I see 35 mpg in my future.

They're supposed to be arriving tomorrow!!! Friday the 21st. They will be on by dec but I don't think I'm actually going to race...

:suicide:

My transmission is getting worse, need to replace the TOB fork and components with that, check the 3/4 gear syncros, and make sure that i'm not going to cause any additional damage to my car. I would love to make it out, its just not a responsible decision... It's still ok at this point, but if it gets worse I'm going to be out of cash real quick. If everything gets worked out in time I may still make it out but we'll see..

:( can't break my car. :bang:

Damn man, that sucks. Are SRT's known for eating transmissions? Is your clutch good? You're right though it's definitely not worth making your daily driver inoperable for a couple runs at the track.

What's wrong with your trans? What does it do?

Ya they are.. most common (meaning almost every SRT owner i talk to has had this problem) problems is the premature wearing of the TOB fork and 3/4 gear syncros going bad. Symptoms include:

Clutch not disengaging completely (tob fork wear) which leads to hard shifting, difficulty getting into reverse and first gear, slower shifts (i blame my slow times at the track on this), vibrations at idle in 1st WITH clutch depressed fully and lots of potentional grinding of the gears.

THIS is the problem that usually leads to 3/4 gear syncros going bad, but i've yet to really deduce the origination of that by itself.

Symptoms include getting locked out of 4th to 3rd gear shifts (pops out in third on a DS, revmatching more aggressively can make shifting bearable but stillan issue that needs to be addressed before much else happens) also grinding in shifts to 3rd gear (usually from 4th). i've only been popped out of 3rd to 4th gear shifts once so far, it's mostly the downshift. I imagine the stress under the added load of higher rpms is the cause for 3rd to pop out more and not 4th.

Really it's a PITA but the TOB Fork and accessories can be had for about 200 new and will fix the hard shifting and clutch issues.

3/4th syncros will be more and harder.

Sean, I'm considering buying a used transmission and starting a rebuild myself with special consideration given to the problem areas. Know anyone who would be willing to help me take it apart and put it together when I'm ready? don't know enough about them but aching to learn!

Who's the OEM for the trans? Usually driveline stuff is the domain of specialists. It requires specific measuring tools and a strong sense for precision work.

Mike is a great guy. He helped me with my heater core on the truck and that is no small chore. about 8 hours when all was said and done. He has given me a hand/advise on may projects. I paid him $250 (he would have done it for less, but he scratches my back and i scratch his) for the heater core and if I had had it done at the dealer it would haev run me at least $800 to $1000. I trust Mike with my Mustang, my F-150, and my girlfiend.

Hell I thought you were gay . . . As for women, they really aren't so difficult, unless you insist on relating to them as guys. That dog don't hunt. Pay attention to what they say and how they act and you'll get it, unless you've just run through a bad lot that are disturbed. Even in HS I had plenty of friend girls as you say and they were great. Sean, you're too damn smart to have married someone that wasn't right for you.

Boostn, you bought a Dodge, so I don't know about you. :rolling: But Kera does seem cool. :D

God... chiil out guys... :rolleyes2:

I never speak in absolutes and mean it, wait... :sm_laughing: Obviously there are exceptions to the rule. I don't really believe that all women are evil, and I'm not prejudiced. But I am cautious, and very pessimistic and untrusting. And most of my relationships/ encounters with women have ended poorly. Women have proven to be less reliable and trustworthy than my Neon.

Sean, 8 years... I wouldn't worry too much.

But the rest of you, try to remove yourself from your bubble for a moment. From the outside I can tell you that everyone seems to be fully convinced that "this relationship is different" or "she is the one, this is different" or "I REALLY love this one." You know… you thought you were in love last time… but you had no idea.

But remember two relationships ago? When you thought it was love? But last time you realized that two times ago wasn't love, but last time was! But now, last time wasn't! But this is for sure! For sure! Your current relationship will always seem the most important, the most relevant, that's not reality (necessarily). It's just the way that we work. Our memory is full of gaps, unfortunately for us our highly influential brains decide to fill in these gaps (whether we realize it or not, and we don't). They do this to complete the picture, to make our world complete and understandable, the problem here is that we enable ourselves to change or diminish past memories, experiences, and emotions. This isn't coming out of my ass by the way, I did take a few things away from Grad school.

Furthermore, your current partner may in fact be perfect for you! All that you've ever hoped for, but people change. Sometimes drastically, sometimes fast. And you'll likely never see it coming. But you will be left alone, hurt and confused. Clinging to memories of the past, memories of a person that has changed so much they don't really 'exist' anymore.

So what I'm trying to say is, look at life rationally. Look at your relationships rationally, and be honest with yourself. This could be it, but it might not be. You're no exception, you're not different, you're susceptible to all of the horrible chance and all of the deception that everyone else is. And if you're gaga over someone that really isn't good for you, just because you can't see past the passion and imposition of your current relationship, you could be walking right past someone that is even better for you. Or worse condemning yourself to a life of mediocrity and/ or loneliness... whether you're single or not.

Too much to quote so a quick reply will have to do.. I see where you're coming from, believe me we've all been through that at one time or another.. I've always been more trusting than others so to speak. Do me wrong though and we'll have a problem. To distrust someone who has never shown a need to be distrusted is unjust IMO. I won't grant the rest of the post a response instead I'll soak it up in silence.

You're all right in my book although we may not agree on certain things.

Oh, and I may have bought a Dodge but so did you! The SRT4 seems to be very reliable to me, little things coming up here on SRT4s in general (not mine yet at 76k on speedo) and there but nothing serious. I'm actually very very pleased with the manufacturing of it. Don't worry... my next car has a 75% chance of being Japanese...
