Ok, so who wants to help me build a Google Earth map of every racetrack . . . on Earth?

What is the scope of effort you predict? I will be willing to help. It would be cool if we could link video from each track.

There is no required timeline, so no time "pressure". As for amount of work I could imagine in total? Mmmm, a few hundred hours across the team should be sufficient to build a pretty comprehensive map overlay. That's a bit of a wild guess though.

For an example of what I regard as an exceptional map, greater in scope, but an example of Google Earth map excellence, see this overlay of North Korea (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=794966&filename=North-Korea-Uncovered-18.kmz).

In particular the use of layers and annotations is pretty stunning.

I've never built a map so I'd have to learn some of the technical details but I can't imagine it's that difficult. I imagine dividing up work by region. We agree on a basic method of data presentation, then build up by region and combine on an ongoing basis (i.e., monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, whatever).

We can just use the attachment mechanism and this thread for communication. I can update the OP with current status. What say you?
