Hey everyone,

Thanks to everyone that came out to the last meet! We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 cars and it was awesome to have so much variety. We had Camaro's, Mustang's, 350z's, G35's, a Typhoon, Syclone, a couple Turbo Buicks, Vette's, RX8's, an dumdumdumdum, a couple Evo's, some Subaru's, a couple RX8's, and even a Viper. Here is a link to the pictures (http://www.motorgen.com/pic/showgallery.php/cat/749) from last meet, and a Motorgen - Videos - Moonlight Cruise October 11, 2008@@AMEPARAM@@value="file=/vid/data/529/Moonlight_Cruise.flv&@@AMEPARAM@@529@@AMEPARAM@@Moonlight_Cruise.flv from the cruise section.

The next meet is going to be on November 8th at the Sonic Burger in Anaheim again. (http://www.motorgen.com/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1177&day=2008-11-8) It has a large lot with no speedbumps. Here is the address for anyone that needs it:

1632 N. Lemon Street
Anaheim, CA 92801
(714) 992-4500

We are planning on meeting at 7:30 again and will just hang out until everyone starts to roll out. I think we're planning on bringing out some drinks and snack food if anyone gets hungry, although I make no promises on how long it will last for. Also, for anyone interested we're planning an offroad trip that morning before the meet. (http://www.motorgen.com/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1171&day=2008-11-8&c=1) You would probably need at least a 4WD Jeep or Truck, but here is a video of where we're going (http://www.motorgen.com//vid/showphoto.php/photo/670) if any of you guys want to come.

Also, we're going to be out at California Speedway for the Street Legal Drags on November 2nd (http://www.motorgen.com/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1172&day=2008-11-2&c=1). We will be taping runs and some of us are running. I'm also trying to get an Ez-up tent and a propane grill to cook some food and tail gate. If anyone is planning to go and wants to be taped, register and let me know you're coming and we'll get you. We're planning on marking cars to be taped with a red colored dot or something on your passenger side window, so come find me when you get there and we'll mark the window to make sure.

If anyone has any questions or anything shoot me an email at SeanPlunk@gmail.com, give me a call or text at 714-322-2324, or shoot me a PM on Motorgen. I'll see you guys out there - it's going to be an awesome month of car stuff.

Sean

By the way, the Sonics is in Anaheim, not Fullerton. I had to go edit 25 threads because I was too tired last night to notice - DOH :bang:

Well I pretty much totally agree. Anwhoozle, this won't be too funny now since we've lost comedic timing, but it goes like this. I thought you were South Asian (i.e., Indian, Sri Lankan, etc.). Then you said the other day in a post you'd be the black guy with his head in a toilet. Now, when you said you corrupted that poor muslim fellow with pork, drinking and gambling all in one night . . . I was gonna say something clever like, "wouldn't be the first time" or "was it Dice?" I hope we can still be friends. Maybe I'll show you my private collection of Lugers some day. :smack:

Now I have a very dry and caustic sense of humor. And on more than one occasion I've been (falsely . . . somewhat) accused of being arrogant and condescending. That's quite a witches brew for pissing people off. I just think they're panzies, or pansys. . . however, you spell that.

It's quite the experience racing down the track for the first time. You just put your foot to the floor and go. Oh yeah, and for me I must shift...but miss 3rd every time.

I'm thinking this is going to be a heavy race weekend (meaning lots of cars lined up) so that requires you to get up before the sun and hag out outside the track and wait in line.

I hope to be there watching all you guys do your thing.

I'm usually too excited to sleep so I end up going to bed around 1am and then I’m up by 3:30 to 4. I do everything I need to do to my car the night before the races which doesn’t help any.

wow there must be alot to prepare for... can anyone give me tips on prepping my car for race day? She's still stock... I figure I'll strip everything from inside the car (any loose items) carpet and spare from the back... what about my tires? still on street tires so my regular psi should be fine. anything i should double check before the tech does? I'm going to try and get there as early as possible.

For me, I clean the car I'm taking (hopefully I can bring both the Chevelle and my Cobra), get my nitrous bottle filled, set my timing (Cobra), check fluid levels, fill up on race fuel, check plugs and gap, check cap and rotor and wires, pack my tires, tools, helmet, chairs, EZ up, and other gear.

For you, just wash and vacumm your car and you should be ready.:smack:

Do you have a spare tire and related eqiupment. If so, remove it if you want, it's probably 500 hundredths. :smack: I've done a lot of research from lots of people of the years, and the consensus (at least for relatively powerful RWD V8s) is that even on street tires take the pressure down to roughly 25psi hot. Also, a very light burnout can be useful, not for heating the tires or getting them sticky, but for knocking off a layer of smulkus. Since you're a FWD, you probably can't do that without a line lock.

When I use to race the Chevelle on street tires (BFG Radial TA's) it did best with 27psi and a little spin to clean the tires. I tried heating them and that just makes them spin more. That was back when it was running mid 13's.

Makes sense.

Oh, and drive AROUND the water box if you aren't going to do any burnouts. You're in a stick. Look online for a tree simulator and explanation of how the tree works. You'll be using a standard tree, NOT a pro tree. It's now big deal, since you probably aren't trying to cut double zero lights yet, but knowing a little can make a big difference in getting a jump against other drivers, which is ultimately where a lot of the art and fun of it is IMO

There are two types of Christmas Trees that the NHRA uses, Sportsman and Pro. The Christmas Tree pre-stage lights are connected to an infrared beam about two inches off the ground and about six to eight inches from the starting line. When the edge of your front tire rolls forward and "breaks" this beam the pre-stage lights will illuminate.

A second infrared beam is mounted on the actual starting line...When the edge of your front tire breaks this beam the stage lights illuminate. You can "nudge" forward at this point and "deep stage" which shortens the distance to your tripping the clocks. When the rear of your front tire clears the starting line infared beam, your time starts.

With the Sportsman Tree the three ambers march down in a .5 second sequence with the green illuminating .5 seconds after the third amber light. The goal is to "cut" a perfect .5 second light by anticipating the green. Anything under .5 seconds is a red light.

Your vehicle's reaction time (VRT) could be anything from .2 to .5 seconds and is obviously influenced by "how deep" you stage. In the real world this has to be factored into your strategy. The driver's reaction time (DRT) plus the VRT is your universe in Drag Racing. Races are won or lost on the starting line. It's not as simple as it looks!

Hehe, you forgot a few things...

Food (although there is a hotdog stand on site (which charges you $$$) and carls jr, jack in the crack, ampm, and some other joints the other direction)
Water
Jacket (5am is ASS cold)
Blanket
Something to keep your hands busy while you wait

I might have even still forgotten a few things

God I can't wait till I'm modded... no spray for me though. big turbo + accessories, good tuning, good clutch and tranny, suspension, engine mounts and some DRs should put me in the low 12s...

then I can check my tire pressure and go LOL

for my first time I'll probably clean the whip, pack up whatever I need to bring along and maybe some higher octane fuel... I run 91 all day maybe I'll find something higher somewhere for the day. It'll be fun! I still don't know how fast she is...

I get those things together in the morning before I leave otherwise the ice is melted. Things I do that morning are make a good breakfast usually eggs or an omelet and a protein shake, pack the cooler with drinks for the day, get together some snack foods (my wife usually come in the afternoon with my daughters and they bring me lunch), get my SFI race jacket (also a sweatshirt if it's really cold), go to the gas station to get 3 to 4 gallons of 91 to mix with the 5 gallons of VP 110 I added the night before and pick up ice for the cooler. Then I head to the track.

Don't waste your money on race fuel unless you plan on bumping up the timing or adding a little boost and are worried about it detonating. The higher the octane the harder it is to burn the fuel. If your car doesn't detonate on 91 then there is no reason to run anything higher. You may even run slower with the race fuel.

ya dude actually in evo land its been way over proven that just hopping up the boost, or throwing race fuel, or just doing both will make u slower because ur not tuned for it!, and im sure the same holds true for your car and every other car out there!

but ya dude like these guys said just slean out ur entire car, and if you want toss the spare tire and rear/passanger seats if your desprite lol, and just go at it. especialyl with your first time you should just go out there and get a feel for things and have a fun time with friends and people on here man.

Nope. It needs to be Snell rated. You should find a sticker like SA2005. I "think" the current cutoff for CSW is SA2000.

You're welcome to borrow mine on the day, but we ain't gonna know if it fits til then, so that's a little risky. You can spend any amount of money helmets, but I'm a fan of HJC for value. I love my HJC AR10 (http://soloracerdotcom.stores.yahoo.net/hjcar10.html)

I'm not made out of money you know. :D Plus that's like 48 hours and a clutch break in is just like a brake burnishing period isn't it. SHouldn't take more than like 30 minutes going through some kind of cycle. Or am I whack?

You can drop a G on a helmet real easy. Though I guess it's probably more of those fancy pants open-wheelers. :smack:

Same for Motorcycle helmets. Sure you can spend $60, but the good ones are more like $500+. I like my Scorpion which was like $219. Don't know how it'd be on a long ride though cuz it's kinda loud.

I honestly don't remember what the break-in for my McLeod was, but I don't remember being warned by them about anything specifically. I say pour yourself some coffee and head North on the 1 for 250, then turn around. Lots of lights from SoCal. Brings some friends, BS, it'll go by in no time. Of course there's the sticky bit about your fuel situation.

It takes about 500 miles to break in a clutch. When breaking it in you should have some cool down time as well. Don't just go out and try to put 250 miles on it in a day without letting it cool down. With that said, I don't think you are going to have an issue with your twin disc clutch if you can put 250-300 miles on it before the races. They are usually rated in the 600-900wtq range so I don't think you are going to over power it.

You're aren't going to get jack from that much weight loss, but the intercooler thing, depending on the weather . . . maybe. If it suffers from heat sink like Sean's Cobra, hells ya.

But you have a 10 bolt with 27 spline axles. I have a 12 bolt with 30 spline axles. Also, since I put my rear sway bar on my car quit squatting the right rear like yours. It use to pull the front left tire about 6 inches and now it only lifts about an inch. I'm just praying for the best.

Steve, unlike Sean's or my car that have superchargers your car probably does better with the engine a little warm. You have an effecient intercooler that cools the intake charge and the turbo will spool quicker when it's warm. I found this out when I helped a friend install twin turbos on his 2004 GTO. When we dyno'd it he actually made more power (10wrhp) on the 4th of 4 back to back pulls then he did on the 1st. I on the other hand have no cooler at all. So my car does best when it is cold. I usually ice the intake and supercharger in between runs. If you're going to ice your intake make sure you remove any excess water and ice before heading to the lanes so you don't drip water on the track.

hey guys i cant make it out nov 2nd

.....the fuckin tip of my cylinder 2 spark plug broke off and bent the valve seating so i have a mad compression leak in there......just thank god it didnt crack a piston or mess up my cylinder wall !!!!!

either way im so pissed!!!!

i was gunning it too 135mph on the 210 then let off and coasted to 70mph and then when i regunned it a lil to catch up with traffic my car wasnt holding boost bast 4-5psi

my conclusion is 1 of these 2 theorys

1. because im running so lean now up top because i dont have that second fuel pump the cylinder temps got a lil hot and melted the spark plug tip off slowly from all the times i get on it.

2. is that even though the e85 can take it my spark pligs couldnt deal with that how much timing i was throwing at it up top which made the spark plug tip crack off....i was running 22 degrees of advance timing

either way this is gonna cost me a shiney penny :-( damn and i was so close to having my car complete

well lookes like imma just have to get oversized valves, port polished head, hell port everything and springs and retainers and maybe even a way bigger cam sense im in there.......

9.71! I have to use the 250 shot and I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet. Maybe I'll just work on getting in the 9's and being second fastest. Besides, I drive my car to the track, race it and then drive it home.

Clearly the fastest in that category.:hail: Mad Props. Actually, soon we're going to add a flag for race car/street car to vehicles for better sorting.

I gotta say though, getting 900HP out of < 2L is pretty stupifying in any case. This is Paul Ho's car of Injen. I think he's running like 50psi, it's way less than 2,000lbs but still FWD. When I chatted with him at the track he said he had some interest in building up a bigger motor like a V6 or even V8. Home slice has got the skillz. I'd like to see it.

Here's (http://www.motorgen.com/vid/showphoto.php/photo/467/cat/515/ppuser/463) Paul's car in action.

We're investigating potential locations where we can develop a direct relationship with the private property owner. This can work just fine provided a reasonably high percentage of visitors spend a little money at the business. Chain/franchise places aren't very good for this kind of event.

Sorry I wasn't more help, I just didn't have what you needed here. I have the floor jack at the other house, but not the 14mm nuts. I texted a friend who probably would have had the nuts in his garage, but he must have been sleeping. Glad to hear you made due though :judge:
