Not my kind of car, but the new Chevy Cobalt SS is a nice little rocket. 260hp turbo I-4 with a no lift shift function from the factory. Limited slip differenctial ($495 option), sport tuned suspension, and brembo brakes.

The brakes actually piss me off because they are high quality (though significantly smaller) than the cross-drilled brakes on my vette:huh:. Saw one autocrossing and i was surprised how quick it was, thenwent to the dealership (vette oil change) and was shock on all the little tid bits of gold that GM has on it.

Good Job GM:thumbs_up:

Stylistically, it's a bit dorky looking, but from the first generation it was quite stout actually, especially from a chassis balance and handling POV. I think it was on an episode of Street Tuner Challenge where the Cobalt was pretty much bitch slapping all the imports on the road course, including like a 700HP skyline (though it had other problems.)

They are sweet cars, but I can't get over the looks. Still, it was awesome to see it beat a Evo, STi, and lots of other things around a track :sm_laughing:

Are they still FWD?

BADDASSC6

Yes they are still FWD, but if you think about it the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn view are two roadsters with the exact same components list.

You mean the SKY? The Soltice and the SKY are most definitely RWD.

Yes I did mean the Sky and the Solstice. I knew they were rear wheel drive. I was responding to enkievettes question. The SS, Sky redline, and solsticeall have the same ecotec 260 hp motor. I wouldn't buy FWD, but the other two I would consider.

i gotta give it to gm they made a good *mechanically at least* I-4 car finally, it was proven several times to actually beat the evo 10 at 1/4th times, and i have to confirm my source but i think also a road coarse

wow now i wonder what my stock SRT will do on that... how $$ much does the cobalt SS run? too bad the neon SRT is only 03-05, people don't like doing current reviews on it.

lol its a dodge its alread disqualified

but for real idk the old evo was the quickest of the bunch for that generation

for this new group idk if i had to put money on it is say the new hyandia coupe with the I-4 turbo evo engine, or the new toyota with a toyota chassis, and a subie engine and drive train thats coming out in world markets there getting the STI engine, in the US im not sure if it is getting that engine maybe a wrx, or N/A boxer i forgot but both cars will be heavy hitters

Wow, every car above the SS on the list other than the Z is a high end car. So I guess Chevy wins the ticket for the inexpensive sport compacts this year.

they did good for a well priced production car, i still think that if you dont plan on keeping the car stock and want the best price to mod to performance gain ratio go with the evo, but if you wanna keep it close to stock the SS takes it.

well cant win them all :-(

It's never appealing to me when a newer model is slower than the older model. I would rather have the Evo, but an 8 or a 9, not a 10.

ya i know what u mean it kinda kills the whole EVOLUTION theme they had going!!!

also AYC isnt all its cracked up to be its great for an amature driver to keep him safe, but every other evo community around the world actually thinks the US evo 8-9 are lucky because we dont have that on our evo's , it supposedly interfears to much when trying to puch ur car past a curtain limit.

that list is incomplete. I don't in fact see that a neon SRT4 was tested. I'm happily willing to donate my car for some testing  You can't discriminate when we have the SRT viper ranked well and the Caliber SRT on the board but no Neon SRT haha I'll see if my buddy will test his ACR.

Any body want to put together a list of MSRP for each car? I'm curious to see that. I have no problem with a 30k car smoking my car or performing better by alot or a little hehe. MSRP for the neon SRT started at 19,995 and it's probably damn near the fastest car you can buy new from factory for less than 20k. I bought mine for half the price of an evo haha. (must partially be because i have half the AWD)

anybody know specifically how much the SS is? I'm really curious.
