Does anyone know of someone I could take my 9600 to get some repairs done?
I bought this stereo in 1979 and has worked perfectly till now.

Let it die. You'll pay more to have it fixed than it will cost you to buy a new one. I only paid $129 for the Kenwood in the Exporer and it has an auxiliary hook up for the DVD player. Check out this Clarion (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020CZ109/Clarion-CZ109.html?c=3) on sale on www.crutchfield.com. It's on sale for $80.

Well, this is a actually a home stereo of great power. It is a huge Reciever that is the cleanest sound I have ever heard. It is better than any new type Home unit I have listened to so far.
It's 200 watts a side with no more than .02 distortion.
I'll post a picture of it a little later.

Thought so. Let me check a resource. It's solid state right (i.e., not a tube driven amp)?
There definitely are modern units at this and much higher levels, especially for connectivity, but they gonna set you back more than $700-800 bucks MIN.

Sorry just assumed it was a car stereo. It would definately be cheaper to fix it then. My dad bought a Kenwood about 6 or 7 years ago that has 200 watts per channel x 5 channels but he paid $1500. I didn't go with the top of the line when I bought mine. My home entertainment receiver in my family room is a Pioneer and only puts out 120 watts x 5 channels and I think I paid somewhere around $300 - $350. The one in my loft is a Kenwood that puts out 100 watts X 5 channels but I only paid $150 for the Kenwood at the Kenwood outlet a few years ago.
