You guys missed out on one of the rare days when everyone decided to stay home. There were less than 200 car today and I got in 4 runs by 1:30 and that was with taking my time to ice the car down between runs.
The good news, I ran my fast MPH in the Cobra but I didn't beat my quickest time. On my first pass I ran an 11.922 at 119.34 which is my new MPH record. I spun out of the whole and only pulled a 1.824 60ft. Then the SC belt slipped in 2nd and 3rd. My next pass I hooked so I had a better 60ft of 1.742 but my time was an 11.950 at 115.81 because the I drove the car to the line. My 3rd pass was my best of the day with a 1.691 60ft and 11.873 at 118.94. Again the SC belt slipped but this time only in 3rd. My last pass of the day just sucked. I launched at 4500rpms and I heard a clunk and the car bogged. My 60ft was a 1.867 and I ran 12.161 at 117.82 but when I was slowing down I heard a humming noise that sounded like it was coming from the rearend. When I got home I checked the rearend and it was binding. I removed the driveshaft to see if it was the rearend or the trans and it was in the rearend so I pulled it apart and discovered this.

At least I have a new fastest MPH. The Cobra is now almost as fast as the Chevelle is without nitrous. Not bad for a daily driver.

No worries, this one survived 160,000 miles of punishment. I'll call GTR Monday and see how much they want for one. Summit carries them for about $200 so if GTR doesn't have them I'll get it from Summit.

Wow bummer on us missing the awesome track day and bummer on the rear end. Did you have to trailer home or were you still able to drive it?

Damn. Sorry about that. Are you going to go stock replacement or beef it up a bit?

I was able to drive it home. All it did was take away the clearance between the ring and pinion gear by the amount of the crack which is what was causing the noise and the binding.

I don't have the money to invest in upgrading it and this one lasted 160,000 miles so I'm just going to go with another Trac-Loc. If I had the money I would upgrade to a 31 spline Eaton but that would run me about $1000-$1200. I can get a Trac-Loc for around $200 and then I just need new carrier bearings. I'm going to see if GTR has one and if not I'll order it from Summit tomorrow.

Hey guys, I found a video on You Tube of the pass that I broke the carrier on. I don't know who it is that video taped it but I did a search on You Tube and found it.

Sounds like you had a slow 2-3 shift.
Ford Racing Trac-lok (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-4204-F318/) $260
Detroild Locker (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DTL-913A561/) $450
Eaton (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ETN-19588-010/) $490
Or were you thinking of a electronic locker or something?

The only gear change you can really hear in the video is the 3rd to 4th.
Yes the Eaton is only $490 but then you have axles, c-clip eliminators, bearing kit, etc. By the time I'm done I would have $1000-$1200 into it. That's why I'm just sticking with the stock 28 spline Trac-Loc because I already have Superior axles for it.

GTR had two used Trac-Locs and sold me one for $60. I also picked up some new carrier bearings, synthetic gear oil and limited slip additive. I'm going to go through the carrier tonight and then install it after work tomorrow night. Then I'm heading over to Throttle Crazy's so we can start building his 383 again.
