So ever since the new Mustang has come out there has been a raging debate about the design of the back end. Some people love it, others hate it - it seems to be very polarizing. With that in mind I have pictures of the V6, GT, and Cobra (SVT or Shelby) models of every generation since 1979. I tried to find only pictures of stock cars, but that proved difficult for the fox bodies. With that in mind, rank the front end and back end designs in order of preference and then vote for the overall best in the poll. This is based strictly on looks and not the drive train. Here are your choices:

I'm going to create a similar thread for the Camaro shortly, but as with the Mustang I'll probably omit the first generation. I think that if I included the 1st gen Mustang or Camaro it would be the overwhelming favorite. I'm fairly confident nobody would choose the Gen 2 Mustang though :rolling:

This one doesn't look too bad and it run mid 13's at 105 on 225 radials with a basically stock '86 5.0.

This was tough for me... I had to differentiate some of the body types by trim level or between some of the slight, yet highly impactful differences between years.

It is tough. For instance I would actually rank the S197 body style (besides the GT500 and the CS) low on my list because I don't like the front end that much. It's funny though, before the 2010 model the S197 didn't bother me but comparitively it looks kind of boring now.

See - I mainly rated the 2010 front end so highly because of the Shelby but I don't like the rear end at all. I prefer the simplicity (you say boring, I say simple) of the S197 from the front or back (that's what she said) - even the V6.

I hate the back of the 2010. I think the back is the worst looking Mustang rear ever. And I don't like the front as much as the S197, but the side of the 2010 probably has the best lines of the years in your poll. Overall, I had to go with the S197, beacuse I don't think you can do anything to the 2010 to make that rear look anywhere near acceptable, to me.

Interesting. I totally disagree on the front. I think the 2010 is the best front end on a mainstream Mustang since the 1st Gen cars. I am not a huge fan of the back. Ideally I would love it if the new Mustang retained the current front and profile, but had the backend of the S197 cars. It would be almost perfect then.

I prefer the back of the S197 to the current car. However, I prefer the front and profile of the 2010 10x to the normal S197 cars (not including the Shelby and California Special S197's).

It's understandable that you would prefer that front end. You're a big fan of the New Edge. Me, not so much. I like the S197 front end because it reminds me more of a 69 and everyone knows that the 69 Boss 429 was the best Mustang ever built.

Agreed.
"These cars were rated conservatively at 375 horsepower (280 kW) and 450ft·lbf of torque. Actual output was well over 500 horsepower (370 kW). The manufacturers and dealers only listed 375hp because of legal issues and rising insurance costs."

Which year did your Dad have. The GT500 was made from 67-70. And actually, I think Shelby made a few 71 & 72 GT500s for the European market.

1) I'll go with a 95 Cobra R or a 96 Mystic Cobra as far as my favorite looking mustangs.
2) Close second are the Notch backs.
If I we're going racing I would go ith a terminator cobra like Sean's. That's a 11 second car if a man ever got behind the wheel.:rolling:. J/K I love the car though it looks like a Space shuttle.

The street engines were a big disappointment, because they were choked down. That engine needed to breathe. It needed a cam, exhaust, bigger carb. But Boss 429 equipped cars dominated the 1969 NASCAR season. They won 30 out of 52 races.

That's rather less than $500-600k. Anybody who bought at that peak as an investment may be waiting a long time for it to get back to that level. So Joe, when you gonna pick it up? Just be sure to steer clear of those pesky loading docks. :nutkick:

Yeah, the cars that went for $500K - $600K were very low-mile, concourse cars. Those are far and few between. I'm not even sure the seller of the $300K will get his asking price. I won't be getting any Boss 429s. I remember when I could afford one at $100K, but couldn't get myself to pull the trigger.
