So I was going to be picking up a gt500 hence the name but unfortunately recent events have made that a lot less likely. So I am left with the following decision.
1. 2010-2012 Camaro SS
2. 2012 - 2013 Mustang GT
3. 2003 - 2004 Mustang Cobra
now I have done some research and have my mind mostly made up but I was curious which direction everyone else would go and why. This is going to be a daily driver also so keep that in mind. Thanks Gentlemen and hope all is well with all of you.

I guess it depends on your intended use. I will say that it a tough choice. First, I think the new SS looks as good or better than the GT. But that subjective. I would only go for the SS if you have the funds for the 1LE handling package. If not then it's not worth it. If you can pull the cost off then I would go SS for road racing or any weekend track days. If you intend to do more drags then GT all the way. You can get deals on terminator cobras, but I wouldn't go that route. They were great platforms to work on so its kind of hard to find one that not been molested. The GT has way more trunk space and rear seat room than the SS too if you care about that shit. I got my GT because I saw a lot of them running mid to low 12's with bolt ons and tires. I haven't seen that from the SS. However, I already had a corvette for the track.

no matter what you decide on just be aware that used performance cars for the most part have been beat on at least a little so keep your eyes open when looking them over now that being said my minor opinion is
Camaro is a no go to many blind spots very uncomfortable (for me)
Cobra is great I love them but again it's old with miles and the prices have been going up lately
'12 GT I'd stay away from there some engine and tranny issues
'13 GT is probably the best Mustang I've driven prices are good right now just make sure to look for a Track Pack car
now that's just my humble opinion I'm sure there are a lot more out there so good luck and can't wait to see what ever you pick

I concur about the camaro, terrible visibility. Worse than a commercial van.

Only Godless communists buy Chevy at this time. But I'm a little biased. ;)
My friend was recently in a similar position and was looking around. He has a gift and found a completely unused 03(?) Cobra with like a thousand milies on it. Not kidding. The guy did nothing with or to it and just wanted to sell it. I think he was asking under $20k for it. But this was a couple weeks ago. I can ask my friend for his contact if you're interested.

There is no termi on the planet, low miles or not, that wasn't ragged on somehow.
None the less, if it was as described, I would have bought it.

This guy was weird to hear him described. He bought it thinking it was an investment or something like that. The miles were literally in the neighborhood. My friend said it still had a hint of new car smell. No wear on anything!

I'll ask for contact info in the meantime. He wanted it gone so it may be gone. But this was earlier in the year and stuff moves pretty slow around that time. But now people are getting their returns and it's starting to heat up. Anyway, I'll see what I can find out. We have day off on Monday, so I probably won't know until Tuesday.

Ok cool thank you. Yea I really like the terminator but finding one that has not been thrashed is highly unlikely. Personally I love the way the camaro a look and love the LS platform plus I had a gto before so used to owning boats on wheels lol. But I also really like the mustang wish I could get a gt500 but the gt's are really nice. I am looking for a daily driver where I can put down 500hp without spending a ton In mods

As much as I love termi's. I don't see any reason to buy one over a new 5.0 unless you get a STUPID deal on one. Like 10k or less with reasonable miles. Still a fox chassis, which is old shit, the S197 chassis is better in every way.

The new 5.0s are exceptional. Heck the V6s make a helluva good DD for most people.

The reason I am leaning toward the Camaro SS right now is because I like the looks of it and the LS powerplant. I have owned a few fox body 5.0s and I have owned an 04 GTO and I loved the GTO's handling and comfort. From what I have read the Camaro is very comfortable but horrible vision.

Instead of reading, go rent one, I drove that fucking POS for 3 weeks and was excited at first, after about a week I fucking hated that car.

2012 have the old 5.4L iron block. 540 Hp vice 660 and it's 175 LBM heavier in the engine alone. It's still a beast though. Whipple or Kenne Bell upgrade and some fuel makes that thing a 10 second car. That motor is based off the Ford GT motor. I've heard the bottom end is good for 1K hp stock.
mustangray
02-09-2014, 01:28 AM
Actually the '12 has an all alum. motor that is 102 lbs lighter then the iron block and puts out 550hp I have driven many of them and even sold a few over seas they were much improved over the previous ones and with a good custom tune should be able to do 600hp with the stock SC

I have not motor or trans problems with my 12 GT.. the only trans problem was with the sticks in 2011. the Autos are amazing..

true the Auto trans is actually pretty good they were having some issues on the MT-82 and the motor issues usually popped up with aftermarket tunes
Ford did some changes on the '13-'14 engines from lessons they learned from the Boss 302's .
So I never recommend buying a used '11-'12 GT since you really never no what kind of tune or abuse it might of gone through, the '13-'14s will put up with a lot more due to the internal changes

you would be surprised that the tune problem was because the person tuning didn't know what they were doing and was leaning the cars out to much and that's why #8 pops.. I have had a tune on my car since 300 miles and it now has 26,000 miles and over 150 1/4 slips.. yes I would try and stay away from the stick cars due to being made in China but other then that 2011 and 12's are great cars..
oh and the only chance from 12's to 13's are oil squatters and a new undated tune to pick up that extra 8 HP..

yes I agree with you on the tunes some of them were just wrong and they were the main reason for the piston failures (and not covered by warranty) but since you never know what was done on a used car I would stay away from one that you don't know what its history was.
as for the engine changes on the newer engines they also changed pistons, rings , piston coating and valves all done to help withstand heat better and the Track Pack cars ran heavier oil with the oil cooler bigger radiator and the boss 302 emissions set up (which is different)
Now if you bought one brand new and have a good tune then great they are a fantastic car for the money but like I said before I just wouldn't recommend buying one used

While I love those Cobras, they are now a decade old and I dont think they handle the boost in OD.
Id drive the new GT and the new SS, see which one you like better.

I think that V6 would make a good rail motor. And Ill bet they will be cheap and unwanted in a few years.

Hard to believe, but I personally witnessed a 2013 v6 pull the fuck out of a Nismo 370z. Not bad cars. Here is an idea:
ghost what is the primary use of the car(other than DD) road racing/ autocross/ drag racing.......

They're not all that expensive now, few dudes on c-c have already done the swap in their foxes with them. Complete running set with ECU went for 4k. Not too bad IMO

Don't know if he still has it, but it's a 2004 SVT Cobra Convertible, $19.9k firm. Eighty nine (89) miles. That's right, < 100 miles. Silver exterior dark interior. Absolutely nothing done to it. Location: Palm Springs
