Congratulations to a Motorgen OG, BADDASSC6 (a.k.a., Carlos) and his lovely wife Sarah on the successful construction of a new human being. Baby Carlos arrived today weighing in at 10 lbs. 2 0z, with excellent mass centralization and a low center of gravity. May they have many years of joy. :drink:

You'll get a decent night's sleep in a year or so. :smack:

Lol, you beat me to it Ben! Really though Carlos, congrats. Being a father is wonderful. Just remember to be patient because babies cry a lot and don't sleep through the night. My oldest daughter would cry at night unless I stood next to her crib with my hand on her. I can't tell you how many night I fell asleep standing next to her crib leaning over it. Also be supportive of Sarah because her body will be going through hormonal changes which will screw with her emotions.

I'm pretty fortunate. At least for now. He crus for food and falls asleep eating. Wakes up 3 hours later with a poop. Rinse and repeat. He is on that cycle and doesn't cry until he is hungry. He does get fussy when he is being moved around a bunch. Sarah is great. Still in some fairly strong pain medication though. She never shows the pain.

Congrats to you both Carlos and Sarah! All I have to say is SWADDLE, SWADDLE SWADDLE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaddling)!!! I am sure the nurses have taught you already. Keep doing it. We stopped doing it at about 2 weeks and he slept about 4 hours at most. We went in on his 2 month check-up and the doctor asked how the saddling was going and we said we had stopped doing it. That night Shannon thought she would do it again and bam... 7 hours straight! Another thing I loved was our Ergo Baby (http://store.ergobaby.com/baby-carrier/performance-collection/Ergobaby-Performance-Baby-Carriers?child=BCP02500NL). I wore it all the time... Chase would fall asleep in it withing 2 minutes every time. no joke. It made me feel closer to him as well.

Just reporting as I don't have kids, but I have many friends who do including OBGYNs and some women friends way into "modern" techniques (that are very old).

A lot of people are doing co-sleeping as well. This all used to be just the way kids were raised. Basically the idea is from evolutionary biology, we are group animals, and the youngest were extremely vulnerable to predator attack if not constantly protected so it's in their wiring to be nervous and cranky when away from parents (or protector adults) and basically at peace when close to them. And conversely the parent is emotionally "rewarded" for this making it something desirable and less work-like. Nature knows what she's doing. :drink: Like anything else, each parent goes on their own journey and finds their combos of what works for them. Just share'n.

Congrats man! Wow, must feel surreal.

I asked my boss, who recently had a baby, how she was doing with sleep. She said fine, her baby sleeps through the night because she doesn't let him nap all day. Interesting strategy, wonder if it's healthy.

It is is if you slowly transition to up all day. We are working on making that transition.

Leedom,
Thanks for the advice on swaddling I have to be doing something wrong with it. He is really active and can kicks and gets his hands free in it. I'm actually a little worried to make it any tighter. I did get a stoke which is just like the Ergo. I'm going to try it tonight. I am affective at getting him to sleep when I'm holding him, but as soon as I put him down the rage begins. Again thanks for all the advice.

Carlos,

Chase got pretty good at getting out so I just had to step up my game but there are a ton of techniques on YouTube like the double swaddle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOnsKlluHIg) or the Super Swaddle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylusWNVfZWI). Good luck getting your arms out on that one. They also make special swaddle apparel (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2596179&cp=2255957.2273443.2255986.2256249.2256259&parentPage=family).

Good Luck and congrats again!

Congrats Carlos! Your life has now changed forever. You will never be the same again. In many good ways and some fucked up ones, too!

The only advice I have is to take care of your wife right now. Her emotions are going to be all over the place for awhile. Happy wife, happy life. This is coming from a 52 year old father of 3.
