View Full Version : Other Reasonably Attainable Vehicles You Would Like To Own...

So I was talking to a friend of mine today that owns a Jeep and I remarked to him that I would love to have one to go off road with someday. It got me thinking about what other vehicles within reason I'd love to add to my collection someday (for the record I'm keeping the Cobra until I die even if I have to retrofit it with a flux capacitor).

Here are the ground rules:
1) You can choose up to 5 total vehicles including what you already own (In my case I'm taking the Cobra + 4 others. Some of you might not want to keep any of the vehicles you currently own or maybe some of you have 5 vehicles you already love and wouldn't want anything else )
2) The vehicles can be new or used
3) No single vehicle can cost more than $15,000
4) Your total vehicle investment cost including mods would be capped at an aggregate of $15,000 (This would include the price of the vehicle plus mods. If you buy a 5k vehicle, you'd have 10k in mod money for instance. So no Vettezuki, you're not allowed to buy a old Vette and slap an LS9 in it :p)
5) Bikes are allowed
6) You have to explain why you made each choice

Now, here is my list:

1) A Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
-Used cost approx. 10k to 14k.
-I would use this for Motorgen off road trips.

http://www.cliffhangerjeeprental.com/IMAGES/moab0034.jpg

2) A Honda S2000
-Used cost approx. 10k to 15k, any mod money would go to intake and exhaust mods and tires.
-This would be for autocrossing and open air canyon cruising.

http://images.paultan.org/2009/Honda-S2000-Ultimate-Edition.jpg

3) A 1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR4
-Used cost approx. 4.5k/10.5k for turbo upgrade/mods.
-This would satisfy my desire for a bizarre sleeper/AWD/giant turbo car.

http://www.galantvr4.org/img.php?id=68576&width=400

4) A 1999 to 2003 Ford F250 Diesel with the 7.3L engine
-Used cost approx. 10k to 15k, any money leftover would go towards Banks upgrades.
-I would use this for general hauling and towing and might take it to the dragstrip occasionally. I just think it's funny a 7500lb truck can run 13's with simple mods.

http://www.nwicars.com/images/thumbnails/07c041c%20(3)_small.JPG

Honorable Mentions:
-A 1992 GMC Typhoon or Syclone (a little pricey for this exercise)
-A seriously built Fox Body like Eric's (I don't have the mechanical expertise to build one within budget)
-A Ford Lightning F150 (too little utility and I already have the Cobra for a toy)

Dude, $15 limit is too low. make it $40K or make the values of the other vehicles less than the value of on of your current.

My five:
1) my current vette
2) Dodge Ram 2500 megacab 4x4
3) 996 TT (used ~30K) Street terror
4) BMW 135i (best BMW made in the last 19 years)
5) Chevy Nova II for popping wheelies

I only set the 15k limit because I think that's reasonably affordable for most of us. For you though the list you provided seems totally reasonable - I'm jealous of your deeper pockets :D. I'm surprised by the 135i as a choice. I see you as more of a E55 AMG type guy if you're staying underneath 40k.

I know, that is MY list. You're supposed to put up your own list. I didn't originally make it a poll - Vettezuki did that. So, read the rules in the first post and put up your 5 :nutkick:

I couldn't choose between the S2k and the Rubicon... I love both and they are two VERY different platforms. I would make a recommendation to try to source a used Honda S2000 CR... upgraded suspension, hardtop standard, rear spoiler and aggressive front fascia. (CR stands for club racing)

As far as my own go and in no particular order:

2001 Acura Integra Type R
Pheonix Yellow and 9000 RPMs of screaming honda engineering.
Mods will be primarily suspension with minor bolt ons. This would be a weekend and track car.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/XposedClimber/car%20pictures/mstruvdisaster-71424366.jpg

2003 Mustang GT
Strong build with a blower and 11.50 or better ETs
Weekend and track car.. something like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/XposedClimber/Mustangs/mainphoto1.jpg

2004 Dodge Neon SRT4
Big Turbo setup, suspension and fuel mods. DD that is running mid 12s and is also a weekend road racer.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/XposedClimber/Srt-4/LoweredCar003.jpg

1989ish Nissan 240sx
Fully Built Weekend and DRIFT only car. This is the best example i could find without stickers.. widebody drift car pushing 400+...
http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/_mg_4874-1.jpg

Jeep Wrangler from the 1990s... awesome cars
this is for going the places all my other cars can't
http://4wheeldrive.about.com/library/uc/ucgraphics/Whit_Johnston_DSC_1103.jpg

The cars that I've spent more time planning and building ideas for is the GT, the SRT and MOSTLY the Integra.

I have a whole list of others as well. these are just the top 5.

Alright... the 15k is gunna kill my list as well because my top 5 would pretty much all be collectors items that sell for more than 15 but aren't necessarily worth more than 15 (i.e. 93 cobra, 66 mustang fastback and alike). SO, as for my reasonable list... (in no particular order)

88-93 Mustang 5.0 5 speed. Good all-around build (road-racing or drags) and capable DD...
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/4512/3121/23779060065_large.jpg

Brand Spankin' New (whatever year that may be) GSX-R 1000. What else are gixxers for - just plain fun, cruising, drags, kneedragging etc...
http://hellforleathermagazine.com/images/K9_GSX-R1000_black.jpg

1995-2003 BMW 540i - grocery/family mobile. depending on the year this would end up right around that 15k mark but since I wouldn't be able to get a V10 M5 I would settle for this :)
http://www.globalcar.com/techimage/1996BMW540i_1.jpg

1996 Ford Bronco - lift, flares, tires, bumpers - decent all around off-road build... good for the mountains or the desert. Mild crawling or (mild) pre-running...
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/4041/4161/22602080001_large.jpg

and, finally....

An early 70's Triumph, customized cafe racer... maybe this is just a phase I'm in right now, but I reallly want to build a cafe racer. I'd really like a vintage ducati but that would be much harder to come by - I'd even settle for a honda cb750 if i had to...
http://motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/Custom/triumph_cafe_racer.jpg

OK - that took a bit more thought that I would have guessed... but there it is... my current "reasonably-minded-wish-list"

You should talke to, uh, CafeRacer (http://motorgen.com/forum/member.php?u=611&ppuser=611). He lives up in La Canada and rides Angeles Crest all the time on his Thruxton.

As for me, I really dig the new Nicky Hayden themed Ducati 848. Wonder how much that is?

And because of some substantial connections, the temptation to buy a new R1 is pretty intense sometimes. But I have discipline. :smack:

That Nicky Hayden 848 is pretty badass... but it's only an 848... despite the lack of an extravagant paint job I would much prefer the 1198S which I think is going for just under 20 now... The 848's start at 13,900 so I imagine the Nicky Hayden is about 15-16 ish... AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep up that discipline of not buying an R1... Guys who ride R1's are like guys who drive EVO's and WRX's as (if I remember right) BRUTAL pointed out the other day... They think they are the fastest thing under the sun when, in fact, they are definitely not...

If you're looking at Liter bikes stick to Honda or Suzuki. Even Kawasaki over Yamaha for that matter...

I don't know man, the new R1 is pretty wicked. You could say the same thing about guys in Corvettes . . . :sm_up_there:

I love my Bandit, which is dirt cheap to own, almost free, and is really more than enough bike for me. It's just I got to ride a 08 Gixxer once, and that kind of stability is addicting. The Bandit is a hoot, but like my old Vette is not exactly cutting edge handling technology. :smack:

One of the owners of a shop near me bought a brand new 08 Z06 for $90,000.
He takes GREAT care of it and has very low miles with mega buck new aftermarket wheels and tires. He tried to sell it and the HIGHEST offer was $45,000.:crutches:

That's not a problem on an LS7 unless it's 60k hard miles, which they probably aren't.

If I were in the market for toys, I would love this global economic apocalypse. Should last for a while though. Depending on how things go maybe next year I'll do something stupid. Then again, there's lots of actual investments going for pennies on the dollar in some cases and that's where the big-boy money is going. I should try to tag along. :)

Yeah, it's pretty unbelievable. Certainly you can get great examples for $25k. While I could do it for a lot less if I had it to do all over again, I'm probably into my LSx C3 for over $30k, but there isn't much I didn't modify or change altogether. :smack: Ah well, such is life.

That one is overpriced for the mileage. closer to 17k is reasonable. you can find them for 15-17k

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=261803457&dealer_id=64102695&car_year=2001&rdm=1247113143066&model=INTEG&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=2001&keywordsfyc=__dHlwZSBy__&keywordsrep=116121112101032114&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=0&marketZipError=false&color2=&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=ACURA&keywords_display=type+r&color=YELLOW&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=92630&advanced=y&end_year=2001&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=1020&standard=false

Actually... that one for 20k is a VERY clean R but not quite the Right pRice...

Tyler, why are Integra Type-R-s so expensive while an RSX Type-S is relatively cheap in comparison? Aren't the engines basically the same but the Type-S has 10 more hp?

Anyway, my list. Budget $30k.

The kit cars, all from FFR, roughly in order of interest.

GTM (challenging to do for $30k~, but possible)

Type 65 Coupe

Mk III

Another frankenstein

240z with 2JZGTE (probably could do decent job for around $20k)

Evo IX Cornfed style - problem is I'm a grown up now :smack:
http://motorgen.com/pic/data/500/medium/8454-2006-Mitsubishi-Lancer-EVO.jpg

Ducati 1198S - that's a lot of class for $20k
http://motorgen.com/pic/data/500/medium/2009-Ducati-1198S-5.jpg

Triumph Speed Triple - few bikes say broken beer bottle in the face better

god I wish $30K was a reasonable budget for me.

NO haha

The IntegRa has a b seRies 1.8 liteR high compRession motoR (B18C5)... One of the majoR engineeRing feats is how they weRe able to minimalize dRive tRain loss and cReat a sophisticated little Rocket ship Right off the factoRy flooR.

The RSX is a K seRies 2.0 liteR motoR (K20A2 i think)

The ITR is a lighteR caR, and a collectoRs edition.

1-???? made, I'm not actually suRe how many weRe made. Amazingly advanced engineeRing.. It's moRe faiR to compaRe the RSX S with the IntegRa GSR..

If you want to look at an RSX that might be more comparable, there is an rsx that is badged as an Integra Type R. More suspension upgrades and a few motor upgrades, still the K series. I'm not sure what year, maybe 02-04...

Besides, Sean... when was the last time you saw a TRUE itR on the stReets... vs a RSX-S??? I see the S all the time but I see FeRRaRis moRe than an itR

Here is my list for under $15K like Sean set out.

#1 2003 Ford Mustang Mach1
http://www.motorgen.com/pic/data/662/Mustang-02.jpg

#2 1999-20003 Ford F250 Super Duty (Diesel): 500 ft/lbs at just above idle, oh yeah
http://camburg.com/images/SuperdutyKJ/Turn2.jpg

#3 Toyota Supra: bet a lot of you did not see that coming, always liked these

#4 Jeep Rubicon: for when mud or rock crawling is required. Would have rather had a 70's Ford Broco but Sean told me that would porbably be more than $15K
http://www.babez.de/jeep/rubiconking/jeep-rubicon-king-titel.jpg

#5 Suzuki Hayabusa: gotta have a bike right?
