Talking 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 with Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser! Wide Open Throttle Ep. 74 - YouTube

This is going to be the fastest thing GM makes until the Z07 release. It dropped weight, makes a ton of power, Ceramic brakes. The z51 wont hang.

Speaking of BowTie excellence (fuck'n commies) the ZO7 looks like it might be a much smaller displacement, but twin turbo.

This time I didn't even have to write dumb fuck to get the troll. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed watching another video of a car that will forever be out of you reach.

It might be out of my reach, but Id love to have one. 305's on all 4 corners, that's just crazy!

I think it will be the fastest road course vehicle GM will offer next year. 305,a with ceramics brakes. It will be within 1-2 seconds of the GTRs time around a race course.

Depending on the course, two seconds per lap is still a non-trivial gap, but what's the price point? If it comes in around the 50s or so, it's a spectacular value. And it would probably be more fun to drive than a GT-R. I get the impression that's not a terribly engaging car, but I have no experience.

It all depends. The z28 is just all the zo6 carbon/ zo7 goodies on a Camaro. The zo6 was 3-4 seconds faster than a GTR around a Laguna Seca. The ZL1 is 3 seconds slower than the avatar at Indie. The Z28 drops 300-400 pounds 50 hp from the ZL1 and goes from a 285 tire to a 305 sport cup. I thing it will be faster than a avatar except at very fast tracks like the Roval. I thought it was ingeresting how they were not limited by the corvette and that targeted some of the same competitors as the corvette.

I was actually surprised by that statement. It seams as though the Corvette name is almost it's own entity, separate from Chevrolet. Kinda like Ram and Dodge. And to be honest, it's about time GM steps up with the Camaro and shows us what it can do.

Vettezuki
09-23-2013, 06:33 PM
Listen carefully to what he says, he's being pretty careful about what he says in a lawyerly sort of way. It's something they can fart around with because this will be such a limited production special purpose Camaro and only the Z51 package is available so far for the new Vette. It'll be curious to see the reality of times this puts in vs. the Z51, but no way in hell a Camaro, even a special purpose one is going to be faster than a Corvette on the track when the full lineup of Corvettes is online for a given generation. That would be fucking with total brand strategy, and while a Camaro guy can pitch some spin to a submarket, the suits up the line aren't going to mess with a long standing formula.

We will have to see what the z51 is good for. It can pull some serious lateral G considering the tires it has they are relatively small and hard. I honestly think both will be faster on a race course than a GTR with a decent driver. Anyways, not a bad time to be a car guy.

09-23-2013, 08:31 PM
I'd argue pretty safely I think that this is the best time ever to be a car guy really. Some aesthetic designs from the past had more swagger, but that's subjective. Objectively speaking everything is better as far as I know. By a loot. Hell, even over just the last 10 years there are big jumps in practically everything.

Curious to see what the numbers are for the new Z07 (not Z06).

So I am frustrated by the naming convention used. The last few years you could get a Z06 with the carbon package sans the decals (effectively a LS7 power ZR1) and they would call it a Z06 with the Z07 package. Anyways, Z07 will be a 4.5 liter TT motor 600 hp.

Yeah, I was going pot post about what looks like a smaller displacement TT for the new ZO7. Interesting . . . if it's forged everything from the factor, could be a ridiculous tuners platform out of the box. . . for those who want more than 600bhp.:smack:

Here is a another Z28 Vid from Jay Leno's Garage. I think this will be the same shocks on the Z07 and notice the 3.91 gear.

The Z51 is faster than a GTR and slower than the Viper. This sets the state for the 2015 release of the z07 and the next generation GTR.

Here are the the results from the mythical "Ring". 7:37 Pretty impressive for a 3600 lbm car in the rain. The Z07 will be much faster. I am interested to see if the next generation BOSS equivalent will have an answer for the Z28. I expect the large gap between the Boss and the 1LE will be shrunk with the 2015 weight loss and IRS upgrade. Stay in school, I'm sure the mark up will keep these well beyond the day-laborer tax brackets.

Kid of interested to see what the coming GT350 is really going to turn out like. The original is still my favorite Mustang.

The ring has some long straights where the GTR will excell. Also Nissan has no corporate integrity.

And GM does? Fuck them with a 2x4 for their (and the UAW's) stupidity and greed, leaching off the back of the taxpayer and fucking over bond holders. But they are very well engineered. I don't get to pick the facts about some of their cars.

If you have something resembling proof, rather than hateraid about the GT-Rs Ring time being a fraud, please share. Otherwise it's a pretty substantive gap.

Z/28 did that ring time on a wet-ish track so there is time left on the table.

Depending on how wetish over the ring that could be quite a bit of time.

The new 2014 "regular" GT-R apparently.

The 2015 Nismo is down to 7'08.

Carlos, you should check out the Motortrend article on this track comparison. It's pretty interesting. First of all it includes the Porsche Turbo S. Some things really stand out.

The Z/28 is a staggering track weapon that beat both the the GT-R and Porsche Turbo S on a hot lap. Not by much, only 0.3 between them, but still No. 1.

It's also the least expensive as tested, by a lot. $76k vs. $117k vs. $199k

The Z depends quite a bit on its tires and brakes and the tires must be up to temp before they really work. The low vs. high speed through the turns of the circuit were 100% correlated: the Z had the highest corner speeds and lowest straight line speeds, the Porsche exactly opposite, and the GT-R exactly in the middle.

Basically the Z is a factory Gentlemen's racer and incredible value. If you can drive, you'll be able to beat cars way more expensive than yours on a track But it will get skull fucked on the street by the other two in typical point to point jerking off, street legal drags, etc.. The differences in straight line are enormous. And that considering the Z is on 60 tread ware vs. the Porsche's 220 tread ware (as tested).

Seems like you could get a C6Z and put on sticky rubber and brake upgrade for substantially lower cost and be in the same place thought.
