I haven't recently investigated, but if it were my money and I had to choose among those right now without checking, Dillon xl650, especially if I planned to accessorize it with things like case feeder, etc.

Hornady Lock N Load Auto-Progressive Reloading Press
I forgot this one...it is priced in the ball park.:judge:
"Keep in mind that the Hornady is a true progressive, meaning that it automatically advances the cartridge to the next station with each pull of the handle. This feature helps to eliminate the possibility of a double charge of powder. I believe you need to step up to the Dillon 650 before you get a true progressive press from Dillon."
This one is pretty too....
Progressive means one pull/stroke one step done.....auto indexing does not mean progressive

Believe it or not I'm actually leaning towards the Hornady LNL AP ...cost factor being number one here...:judge:
I watched a video of the 550b and it brought back memories of long hours of pushing and loading the bullet at the same time....don't want to do that any more...no I don't....:judge:

I would anchor that press a lot more though. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but over thousands of pulls, that's wasted energy. For handgun loads, I'd also spend the money for the powder checker, somehow on a batch where we were fighting with decapping, we managed to squib a whole bunch of 45s. It's not fun trying to get a bullet out that's stuck in a barrel. It's probably even less fun to have a double charge go boom in your face.

One thing about the 650 that's pretty cool as I recall, if you want to spend a lot more is that like the 1020, it can be fully automated.

Cost factor here is important....Hornady wins.......in auto everything xl650 wins......In simply doing things easier Hornady wins.....In everything else xl650 probably is better ...but not by much. Finding either one in stock almost impossible right now:(

Price for xl650 with case feeder and a few needed items is $1050.00 to my door.
Hornady is going to be about $250 less...not as much as I thought though.
So now what?:sm_laughing:

I think either is going to be fine. I'd probably lean towards Dillon as it "looks" a little more robust. You're going to be loading mostly/exclusively handgun ammo right? The one thing the guy mentioned about the Hornady that caught my ear was concentricity of the bullet being mated with the case. If you were going to be doing much rifle ammo in particular that you really cared about accuracy and the Hornady was better in this regard with easy of setup or consistency, then I might break towards hornady regardless of price. But, off the top, if the difference is only $250, I'd probably still go Dillon. Tons of accesories and support too.

High precision rifle reloading is still and probably forever going to be a single stage operation anyway, I'm talking about just reasonably accurate, but higher volume production rifle ammo.

I like the looks of the Hornady more...:sm_laughing:...I have a very good single stage Rcbs press.....actually two. But want to do large numbers of 9mm 45 acp 45 lc 44 mag/44 special...and in the future 40 cal and 50 AE---I'm going to put the 50 AE conversion on my 45 acp glock.

Looks like the cost for start up between the Hornady and the xl650 is not that much... actually they are almost the same startup price.
I actually found the Hornady press in stock at Amazon for 564 I can order xl650 for 566 and wait 6 to 8 weeks.
