Well, this certainly isn't going to end the way Ford (http://autoblog.com/ford) continues to compare its C-Max (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/c-max/) Energi plug-in hybrid to its competition from the Toyota Prius (http://autoblog.com/toyota/prius) family. Beating earlier expectations that it would be rated at 95 MPGe (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/22/ford-c-max-energi-will-have-20-mile-electric-range-get-95-mpge/) (but meeting even earlier expectations (http://green.autoblog.com/2012/01/09/2013-ford-fusion-debuts-along-with-47-mpg-fusion-hybrid-100-mpg/)), Ford has announced that the Energi has been rated at 100 MPGe combined (that's 108 city, 92 on the highway). Yes, that makes it "America's most fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid," as Ford so proudly states in a new press release, available below (http://www.motorgen.com/2012/10/11/ford-c-max-energi-plug-in-hybrid-rated-at-100-mpge/#continued). To compare, the Toyota Prius Plug-In gets (http://green.autoblog.com/2012/02/03/toyota-boosts-fuel-economy-rating-for-prius-plug-in-to-95-mpge/) 95 MPGe combined, and the Chevrolet Volt (http://autoblog.com/chevrolet/volt) plug-in hybrid gets (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/07/2013-chevy-volt-increases-range-to-38-electric-miles-98-mpge/) 98.

When it goes on sale later this year, the C-Max Energi will have a lot of ground to make up on the showroom floor, even with its objectively better numbers. Last month (http://green.autoblog.com/2012/10/04/september-alt-fuel-sales-continue-rapid-clip-plug-ins-sell-5-00/), the Prius Plug-In sold 1,652 copies while Chevy sold 2,851 Volts. The non-plug-in version of the C-Max Hybrid sold 969 units in September. Will MyFord Touch, constant Prius-bashing and a lower starting price be enough to put the Energi on top of the plug-in hybrid sales ladder?Continue reading Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid rated at 100 MPGe, combined (http://green.autoblog.com/2012/10/11/ford-c-max-energi-plug-in-hybrid-rated-at-100-mpge/)
