GTM (http://www.factoryfive.com/kits/gtm-supercar/) at any NASA or other race events? If so, what are your thoughts on them?

Yes, there is a team that runs a GTM based on a C5 zo6. It was pretty quick. Not any faster than a good c5 zoo though. They were a nice group of guys though. I learned a lot about how to make racing more "affordable" from them.

I dig the way they look too. Just wondered if they were all hype or not. They're quite a bit lighter I think, so that at least should help with brakes and tires a lil.

There only lighter because they are not required to meet all of the manufacturer safety requirements. If you take all the bullshit out of a car and cage it then it's not any lighter than a c6 or c5.

These are down around 2,400lbs. Can you get a gutted C5/6 that low?

I doubt it. I got my C5 around 2900-3000lbs. I dont see where i can take out 500-600lbs. I already deleted ac, got a light custom exhaust and lighter alu wheels. You can delete carpet,.sound deadening, race seats, some interior, magnesium wheels. Still dont see 500lbs there but who knows. Those gtm's are basically a roll cage with body panels.

You can drop a vette down to 2500-2700 lbs for a race car without going too crazy. There is a ton of weight in the dash and the support under the dash. The rear hatch glass is very heavy. By the time you cut the side impact beams, all the glass swapped for lexan, a/c radio (easy stuff) you will be below 2700.

True but I was still talking for a street car.

Lol, true.
I am the type to drive a gutted out race car on the street anyway. I did miss my ac this summer a few times tho.

I know foxes get down to around 2400-2500. I dont see why a c5 couldnt achieve the same. You can probably save some more weight by running different doors, hatch, hood, and fenders if need be.

The beauty of the GTM is that it IS a cage. So while exceptionally light, it's still pretty impact safe, and can function as a street car with an A/C, Radio, etc. at around that weight. Well, sort of. There is no storage at all AFIK, one of the things that's impressive about the Vette is the hatch space.

How hard was the A/C delete? I want to do this. Did you need to get a idler pulley for the belt? ANy assistance is greatly appreciated.

The ac compressor has its own belt running off the crank pulley so you wont need a new belt. The compressor just bolts on with four bolts to the side of the block by the motor mount. Comes off easy, just disconnect hoses and the sensor. After that just remove the hoses and remove the condensor from in front of the radiator. Youll notice the car will run cooler too with air directly hitting the rad now.
