Well, I finally got around to installing the Honeycomb Trunk Panels on my car before the Angeles Crest Cruise with Sean's help (thanks). I love it! It was super easy and really adds to my rear I think.

I liked it the other way better!

With the honeycomb panel I think it adds contrast to the rear and takes inspiration from the classic Machs.

It looks better with the panel.

+1 always liked the look. Was going to black out the same section on the cobra, but with paint. The honeycomb is great on the machs though, gives it a real sense of heritage.

I like the clean look. No badges, no useless plastic. Just black out the tail lights. Keep it clean I'll get you some chrome stripping to put on all the seams if you want. Maybe some vent stickers and a fake car phone antenna. Just my opinion

I will be asking Adam to help with "tinting" the lights darker to continue the look of the honeycomb panel.

Been waiting the last week to get Yazmine back. I love the new bumper and the body shop did a great job on the paint! Totally different attitude with the car now. Still need to get the chin spoiler and gonna put a black panel behind the lower opening.

Needs a heat exchanger up front :)

It looks great though!

Or a Procharger intercooler. It's a good excuse to buy a blower. I'd use it. "Honey, I had to buy the blower because the car just didn't look right without an intercooler behind the new bumper."

I will try that but I think I am about 7 months away from that.

The Harley kind of helped this project along so in a way I owe him one. The bumper is a stock 03/04 Cobra bumper.

But honestly, turbo spooling and centrifugal blower spinning sound the same at WOT. Only the roots blowers sound different. And the centrifugals have that constant gear whine at idle which is a dead give away of too much horsepower.

PD? 4v?

He's got a 4v engine, essentially the same engine as a termi without all the goodies, and a positive displacement blower is what comes on the termis

Did you re-drill the mounting holes for the bumper? The hood was hitting the corner on mine until I moved it back.

Why not a Mach1 chin instead of the black cobra chin? I ran it for a while on the 03, looked nice :)

Oh, and looking real nice there, love that shaker hood with the cobra bumper:thumbs_up::thumbs_up:

It ain't cheap by any means. If it were not for the accident I would have spend my $$ elsewhere but how can you turn down a free paint job.

I do not think the body shop did. I will have to take a look at it closer. I read about that issue and will have to look into it.

I will give that a shot until I get the Cobra one. The Mach spoiler from what I remember does not make it all the way back to the fender well and I think that looks shitty.

Thank for all the thumbs up guys! I love the car even more now!

Actually what i did was trim a bit off the cobra bumper and use black silicone on the backside to fasten it to the ends of the mach chin. Couldnt tell it wasnt one piece, the shorter ends bugged me too. If you want, i think i have a spare mach chin in the garage?

So I fired up the Mach leaving work the other day and I heard a Metallic rattling. I popped the hood trying to find the source. Could not see anything but was sure it was coming from around the AC Compressor. Drove it home and let it cool and played with it some more and noticed that a plate in front of the pulley was what was rattling. I was talking to a co-worker and he said it was the clutch for the AC. I found that missing were the black fittings around 3 pins that are part of the clutch assembly (circled in Magenta) you can see what they should have looked like on the F-150 image.. Anyone had this issue? I am going to google it now but thought I would ask on here.

Google is amazing. The AC Clutch is shot. Ron you got some spare time you want to waist with me again? Maybe Guy would like to take this AC challenge on?

Clutch kit on ebay is about 70. A new compressor is about 135. Its usually a better idea to change ghe compressor when the clutch goes. I changed about 3 this month. All ford compressors after 94 are the same from the trucks to cars.

If I replace the compressor I am going to have to bleed the system right?

Usually its easier to remove the compressor to replace the clutch. Its possible to do it in the car, but those are balancing weights on the end of the clutch plate and its easy to fuck the compressor up. For the minimal extra coin for an entire compressor its good insurance

Leedom
09-20-2012, 12:21 AM
So I bleed the system and replace the compressor then take a drive out to your place and get a charge?

Shaolin Crane
09-20-2012, 12:49 AM
Yep. Dont be afraid of the chinese compressors on ebay, the hcc brand ones are identical to the 4 seasons one for a third of the cost.

Great how is next weekend? I am booked this weekend. I am going to look into if we can just replace the clutch without pulling the AC. Not excited about spending the $$ on a charge and anything else.

If the a/c still works then just change the balancer plate. I have one around here somewhere

Leedom

I have not been running it but it was working the other day. I did notice a couple of days before I heard the rattle that the ac worked better at lower speeds then cruising on the freeway. I will run the ac later today and make sure it is still good.

Leedom
09-21-2012, 07:21 PM
So I ran the AC on the way home and no cold air. I am assuming this could be because of the bad clutch or the clutch and AC are bad. Is there a way to test if the AC Compressor is shot without replacing the clutch and running the AC?

Shaolin Crane
09-21-2012, 07:55 PM
Nope, only way to tell is under load with the gauges and monitoring pressures and vent temps. In other wordsyou'd need a working clutch first.

Well, a little update on the Mach. I have been noticing a noise coming from the rear for a while now and as a result have been driving the car almost never. it has been getting louder and causing a vibration in the car. Took Ron for a drive yesterday and he said right away something was wrong. I opened up the rear and the oil looked ok, but it had only been about 5K miles since a change so that was no surprise. I turned the tires and inspected the diff. I noticed that the spider gears seemed to have a few more chips in them since last time but did not see anything in the oil (found some chips on the magnetic plug though). We took backlash measurements and had a variance from about.12 most of the way around to about .01 at one point. Took some other measurements and we have a problem. We did not have time to take the carrier out since we are working on my dad's Mach so the car will be sitting for awhile. Need to prepare for the worst so I am going to look into options.

Let me clarify this a little. We checked the backlash which was .012 on the first tooth we check. Then I turned it a few teeth and check another tooth and it was .008. I turned it a little more and and the backlash was .000. At that point you could feel friction when trying to turn the carrier. I then had Adam check the vertical runnout which was 0.002 which is good but when he check the horizontal rumour it was 0.03 which is way out. I have a feeling the ring gear was pushing the carrier over so we need to test it without the ring gear on the carrier.
